| Job Description Summary |
Eastern Oregon University (EOU) is currently seeking applications for a Head Baseball Coach. The position of Head Baseball Coach is a full-time, 12-month position in the Athletics Department and reports directly to the Athletic Director.
The Head Baseball coach leads and is responsible for all aspects of EOU’s baseball program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to building a successful program, recruitment, retention, and graduating of student-athletes; academic supervision, fundraising for both the baseball program and the athletic department, budget management, supervising assistant coaches, developing and managing a competitive schedule, and organizing and conducting all practices. Must adhere to all rules and regulations of NAIA, and EOU. Expected to implement the NAIA Champions of Character Program within the baseball program.
Intercollegiate athletics are integral to the overall educational experience at EOU. The Head Baseball Coach will help fulfill the department’s mission, goals, and objectives. The Department of Athletics promotes core values that inspire academic excellence, athletic triumph, and community engagement through meaningful relationships and opportunities.

| Responsibilities |
Recruiting
As the primary recruiter for the baseball program, the coach will successfully research, scout, evaluate, and contact prospective student-athletes while operating within the guidelines of the department, institution, conference, and NAIA at all times. As an on-campus recruiter the coach will collaborate with other departments and university staff in designing and conducting official campus visits in accordance with department, university, and NAIA guidelines. Oversee the distribution of any athletic grant in aid (scholarship) offers to prospective student-athletes, and ensure the offer is within the designated amount available. Establish and develop positive relationships with appropriate high school and junior college officials in order to recruit prospective student-athletes. A focus should be placed on the Eastern Oregon 10 county region and the state of Oregon in order to promote the university mission.
Training
Design, conduct, and monitor all athletically related activities per NAIA, Cascade Conference, and institutional regulations regarding competition, practice, and conditioning opportunities. This includes preparing annual calendars declaring competition, practice, and conditioning schedules that comply with the 24-week NAIA policy. Evaluate student-athlete’s performance in competition, practice, and conditioning situations in order to identify strengths and areas of improvement. Develop instructional opportunities to improve skills based on fundamentals of activity. Incorporate specific learning opportunities for all positions associated with the team and communicate with all members of the coaching staff. Provide positive leadership during the competition, practice, and conditioning sessions to facilitate proper technique and attitudes towards each other, opponents, and athletic department. Communicate with Athletic Training Staff regarding injuries of student-athletes and their ability to participate. Adhere to all regulations regarding the health and welfare of student-athletes as determined by the medical staff. Coordinate the fulfillment of all game management requirements per NAIA and Cascade Conference sport guidelines.
Academics/Conduct
Oversee the academic progress of student-athletes in order to achieve satisfactory progress towards graduation and eligibility. Primarily recruit academically prepared student-athletes that meet/exceed admission standards. Strive to achieve a cumulative team GPA each term of 3.0 or greater. Refer student-athletes to appropriate university resources (learning center, advisors, etc.) when deemed necessary based on academic performance. Actively assist in the MAPP program within the department. Understand and communicate all university academic policies, as well as NAIA eligibility requirements to student-athletes. Develop and submit written team rules and regulations regarding conduct and expectations. Develop processes and strategies to implement the NAIA Champions of Character into the overall program. Ensure that 100% of his/her student-athletes complete the NAIA Live 5 – Champions of character/drug education courses each academic year.
Competitions
Develop sound game plans and strategies for the team in preparation for competitions. Manage team-related game day activities including code of conduct in competition, practices, pre-game and post-game meals, travel, lodging, and any related functions. Act as primary liaison to event staff including sports information, facility manager, equipment manager, ticket operations and compliance personnel. Coordinate with Athletic Department staff needs for practice and competitions (gym space, etc.). Develop and submit for approval proposed competition schedule in compliance with institutional and NAIA policy. Communicate with game officials in a manner that does not misrepresent or compromise the program, department and/or University. Assist facilities with the upkeep and maintenance of the baseball field.
Public relations/Fundraising
Participate in public relations activities as approved by taking part in interviews with radio, television media, social media, or print. Develop and manage sports camps and clinics following NAIA and University policy and procedures. Represent the university at professional, civic, booster, or alumni events as requested. Develop and submit for approval any team fundraising activities in accordance with department policy. Take an active role in any general Mountaineer Athletic Association and/or department activities intended to secure resources for the department. Be actively engaged in a civic organization of your choice.
Administrative Duties
Provide oversight for individual sports budget with assistance by department Business Coordinator. Assist with the development of overall facility schedules as it relates to competitions, practice, visiting teams, and camps. Provide itineraries for all individual and team travel prior to departure. Prepare and submit all necessary paperwork related to business affairs in a timely fashion. Monitor expenditures and per diem disbursements for compliance with department, university, and NAIA policies. Manage the purchase of apparel and equipment within the department’s policies and procedures. Monitor the condition of all equipment and assist the equipment manager with the proper care, repair, and replacement when necessary. Manage any post-season awards following all department, university, and NAIA policies. Cooperate with other coaches and staff in order to further enhance the operations of the entire department and university. The coach will conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism, character, and integrity at all times. The coach will submit and review a program action plan with the Director of Athletics annually. The head coach will comply with NAIA, Cascade Conference, and EOU policies and procedures.
Assistant Equipment Manager
Assist Equipment Manager with game day operations that include, but are not limited to: facility set-up and breakdown, equipment check-out, cleaning facility, and in game management duties.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor’s Degree in Coaching, Athletic Administration, Business, Education or closely related field.
- Five (5) years of demonstrated success in building a successful program at the collegiate or varsity high school level.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations.
- First Aid/CPR Certified.
- Mental Health First Aid Training.
- Current and Valid Drivers license.
- NAIA Champions of Character Coaching Course completed.
