SUMMARY/SCOPE:
The Head Baseball Coach will be required to teach, supervise, and correct all techniques, schemes for practice and games.
Oversees all aspects of the baseball program at Hardin-Simmons University including overseeing the upkeep of Hunter Field.
Plan and organize in-season practice sessions.
In addition, responsible for all coaching decisions during competition.
HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees all aspects of running an NCAA Division III Baseball program. Recruits qualified student-athletes for acceptance into Hardin-Simmons University within guidelines set by the University. This includes identifying, evaluation, developing relationships, and initiating application submission.
Develops and implements a program which includes monitoring academic progress in addition to athletic performance.
Plan and organize in-season practice sessions. In addition, responsible for all coaching decisions during competition.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of the American Southwest Conference, and University rules and regulations.
Conducts program in compliance with ASC and NCAA rules and regulations.
Sets realistic roles and responsibilities of all assistant coaches in the program.
Organizes camps and clinics to promote said sport, public interest, and community involvement with the University.
Plans all team travel including hotel reservations, ground transportation, and meal arrangements.
Responsible for managing and monitoring the program budget under the direction of the Director of Athletics including purchasing team uniforms and equipment.
Directs conditioning of players to achieve maximum athletic performance.
Assesses player's skills and assigns team positions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises one full-time employee, the Assistant Baseball Coach along with a Graduate Assistant/Student Worker(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Payroll systems; Internet software; Contact Management systems and Order processing systems.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university is required.
Previous experience coaching baseball at the collegiate or high school level is preferred.
Must be well organized, able to set priorities and deal with matters in a tactful and highly confidential manner.
Must be capable of working independently and with students in a supervisory role.
Must have the ability to work under pressure and deal with deadlines.
Must be comfortable with multi-tasking, flexible with fluid situations and effective with changing priorities.
Must have solid communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are also required (emotionally intelligent).
Must have a strong commitment to the values of diversity and human compassion.
Must be committed to the personal development of college students.
Commitment to working in collaboration with constituencies required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required (or must be obtained).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position is a Full-Time, Exempt Level Professional Staff position.
A minimum of a 40-hour work week is expected; times vary depending on practice schedules, game schedules, etc.
Candidate must be able to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends depending on the time of year. Specifically, late afternoon practices during season and varsity competitions are in the afternoons and on weekends.
Work beyond a 40-hour week is often required during peak season.
Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liability policy.
Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
Extensive travel is required during the season to travel to/from opposing team universities and travel for recruiting is involved year-round.
