SUMMARY/SCOPE:
This is a FT-30 (Full Time – 30 Hours Per Week) hourly position serving as the Head Cheerleading and Mascot Coach / Community Affairs at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX. This position is responsible for promoting student athleticism and school spirit within the HSU Cheer Team, athletic sports teams and throughout campus.
The Head Cheerleading and Mascot / Community Affairs coach will attend various university events, fundraisers, community events, football, basketball, and volleyball games. This coach will also attend many other community or campus marketing events and photo shoots, when needed.
HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To mentor, coach, and support the HSU cheerleaders/athletes.
Create a contract that will best support the athlete, university, and the team as a unit.
Coordinate/plan practice schedules.
Coordinate meetings with athletes and chairs.
Attend practices, camps, all home football, and basketball games. As well as some volleyball games.
Assist Alumni Office in planning of cooperative alumni/prospective student events.
Be able to spot both men and women on standing back tucks as well as running round off layouts, etc.
Work effectively with students and other staff on campus.
Coach and manage the HSU Mascot, Hoss. Schedule appearances, coordinate with student life, marketing, and athletics.
Collaborate with the community for HSU Cheerleaders and Hoss to provide appearances to the big county.
University Branding for Hoss and the HSU Cheerleaders.
Coordinate HSU Cheer Mini-Camp in the fall.
Coordinate HSU Cheer Summer camp for mini cheerleaders.
Collaborate with other Universities to stay current.
Coordinate and schedule competition for our competitive team.
Meet with Prospective students in hopes of encouraging them to attend our university.
Create/Choreograph routines, appearances, tailgates, cheers, chants.
Work with the HSU Strength and Conditioning program to coordinate two days a week for work outs.
Develop fundraising strategies.
Maintain a positive and encouraging environments for all athletes.
Work with Band, Spurs, and media team.
Always work to improve character skills such as, hard work, patience, courage, etc. and integrate a Christian perspective into their work, while encouraging student athletes to do the same.
Community Affairs- Individual will be responsible for coordinating all community affairs that involve the Athletic department. This includes preparing and implementing a community service project for the Athletic department along with service projects for each athletic team. Candidate will also coordinate with the Spiritual Life office how students may qualify for Chapel credit for participating in community service projects.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree from Hardin-Simmons University required.
Must have a cheerleading background.
Must have knowledge of Co-Ed, baskets, and pyramid stunting.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must be ACCAA certified. Must be renewed every three years.
Must be USASF certified. Must be renewed annually.
Must have concussion training.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is a Non-Exempt/Hourly, FT30 (Full Time – 30 Hours Per week) Staff Position.
This position will normally work “up to 30 hours per week”, however there may be times where additional hours and/or overtime may be required during peak season.
Travel and irregular work hours are required, including occasional nights and weekends during peak season.
Any hours worked beyond 40 hours in a single work week will be compensated at time and a half, per FLSA guidelines.
Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liability policy.
Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
Additional travel may be required on occasion.
