Head Coach – eSports

Function of Position:

Responsible to the co-Director of Athletics to recruit, lead, mentor, train, encourage and support students involved in the esports programs, and operate within the guidelines and mission of Bethany Lutheran College. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the development and operation of a competitive eSports program, including: practice and competition schedule, budget, assistant coach and student manager selection and training as appropriate, camp and league oversight, fundraising, and travel logistics.

• Lead team(s) to successful season(s) as defined in consultation with supervisor.
• Recruit student-athletes through high school and college visits, campus visits, and electronic and social media.  Work with the admissions staff on all aspects of student recruitment.
• Ensures that program meets annual team roster size and recruitment goals.
• Cultivate positive relationships with students and their families.
• Coach and mentor student-athlete participants, including: monitoring academic progress, program eligibility, retention, and graduation progress.
• Develop student-athlete physical, spiritual, emotional, academic, and psychological skills and well-being.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate practice plans, conditioning programs, and competition strategies.

• Maintain professional communication with conference coaches; represent the College at conference meetings
• Manage program equipment inventory
• Provide requested information to SID promptly and efficiently
• Manage the esports budget and monitor operating expenses.
• Maintain equipment, space, and inventory for training and competition.
• Ensure compliance with appropriate collegiate eSports standards.  Research, refine, and continue to develop knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies affecting responsibilities.
• Engage with College constituents such as alumni, media, and local communities.
• Solicit, cultivate and manage sponsorships and relationships related to BLC eSports.
• Assist with competition management of contests as needed; coordinate competition logistics and assist with maintaining accurate statistics.
• set and communicate yearly programs to AD prior to season
• Organize, manage, supervise and execute eSports camps, clinics, and promotional events.

1. Attend local, regional, and national professional development clinics, conventions, and   seminars.

3. Research, refine, and continue to develop knowledge of eSports rules, regulations, and policies   affecting your responsibilities.

4. Maintain First Aid and CPR certification.

5. Performs other related duties/responsibilities as appropriate or assigned by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

• Willingness to support the mission of Bethany Lutheran College
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
• Coaching/Recruiting experience at the collegiate level preferred.
• Competitive eSports experience involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements and expert knowledge of League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, or similar games.
• Knowledge of eSport competition rules
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to recruit, develop, and motivate student athletes
• Ability to lift, pull, push up to 50 pounds
• Maintain a valid driver’s license
