Supervise and participate in the recruitment of student athletes. This includes interviewing, screening, assessment/evaluation , and meeting with coaches, counselors, principals, teachers and parents to facilitate the process.

Includes all aspects of a collegiate swimming program; recruiting , scouting, budgeting, planning, organizing, scheduling, monitoring academic performance and promoting intercollegiate athletics. Teaching responsibilities and Christian values will also be included.

Oversee Men’s and Women’s Swimming program. This includes supervision of assistant coaches), scouting, recruitment of student athletes, monitoring academic progress of athletes, scheduling swim meets, ensuring compliance with NCAA 0 11 and BMC conference rules and regulations, and eligibility.
Supervise and participate in the recruitment of student athletes. This includes interviewing, screening, assessment/evaluation, and meeting with coaches, counselors, principals, teachers and parents to facilitate the process.
Plan and manage team travel such as time schedules, transportation by bus/vans, lodging accommodations, meal and accommodations, insurance coverage and schedules for contests and practice. Ensure travel arrangements are within budget constraints and are safe for the swimmers’ and coaches’ welfare.
Supervise and manage the inventory of sports equipment. This involves the selection and purchase, reconditioning, checking standards and ensuring safety and accountability of physical assets.
Oversee the budget for the program. Monitor and approve expenditures for area of responsibility
Supervise and manage the facility to facilitate meets and practices. Coordinate the facility arrangements, ensure safety of equipment, pool area/deck and building, and secure facilities at end of practices.
Plan, organize and participate in practice and meets. This involves athlete conditioning, planning sets, oversight of practices, reviewing current rules and regulations, and participating in media coverage of events
Speak and participate in promotional activities and assist the Director of Athletics in fundraising activities.
Work with gifted athletes to promote their continued play in non-college entities. Speak at sports banquets. Work in liaison with community groups to encourage and foster their participation in athletic activities or events.
Serve on committees as deemed appropriate for conference or national representation.
Work in liaison with faculty, administrators, and staff to coordinate academic and athletic efforts and to share resources and ideas. Supervise assistant coaches and student Work Study employees.
Counsel students on general and sports-related matters. Refer students to appropriate sources, when necessary. Establish and maintain relationships with regional and national athletic associations related to swimming. Develop and maintain liaison relationship with Health Services, Campus Life, Student Activities, and other appropriate departments, to facilitate program development.
Establish relationships with faculty and develop ongoing system of communication.
Work to foster a positive relationship with alumni and parents to maintain connection with Carson-Newman University.
Develop and implement individualized and effective strength & conditioning programs for student-athletes. Manage, supervise and control the day-to-day operation of the weight room used by the swim team. Ensure proper maintenance of equipment, including weight machines and other strength and conditioning equipment.

Education: A minimum of three years’ swimming coaching experience at the collegiate/club level is required. Proven successful recruiting of quality student athletes is desirable. Must have experience in prevention and care of athletic injuries, current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification, must be eligible to drive departmental vehicles and obtain CDL licensing. Robust understanding of swimming techniques and physiological response to training stimulus is required. Familiarity with databases, spreadsheets, and video analysis software preferred. Familiarity with, and preference for, promoting balance in an academically rigorous environment is essential.
Experience: A minimum of three years of coaching experience at the collegiate/club level in swimming is required. Proven successful recruiting of quality student athletes is desirable. Should have lengthy swimming experience as an athlete at collegiate, high school, or club level.
Required Skills: Must have experience working with team unify software, for the running of home meets and meet entries.
