A collegiate head coach serves as a leader, mentor, and strategist, driving the success of the team both on and off the court. Their duties include developing and implementing training programs, creating game strategies, and fostering skill development to enhance individual and team performance. 3. Assist in coordinating Shawnee State intramural program and serves as the liaison between SSU athletics and SSU student life

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Directs the Men's Basketball Program - Leads the SSU Men's Basketball Program through planning, direction and structure to meet the goals of the institution and the team. - Provides on-court coaching and game preparation, film evaluation & scouting; for both team and individual skill improvement. - Develops schedules for practice and competition and ensures the availability and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Oversees travel plans, coordinates video, opponent scouting, etc. - Responsible for selecting and supervising volunteer and paid assistant coaches, overseeing budgets (operating and scholarship) and executing fundraising plans. - Recruits, evaluates, and monitors student athletes who represent Shawnee State well in academics, discipline, and sportsmanship. Motivates athletes to be good examples to the university community.

   • Ensure all student athletes are up to date with pertinent information in regards to all intercollegiate governing bodies as well as Shawnee State policy and procedures.
   • Ensure assistant head coaches on their staff are up to date with pertinent information in regards to all intercollegiate governing bodies as well as Shawnee State policy and procedures.
   • Monitors team budgets to ensure overages do not occur.
   • Supports athletic department-wide fundraising.
   • Regularly attend staff meetings and information sessions, and conferences to stay up to date on all policies, protocols, and procedures.

2. Assist in coordinating Shawnee State intramural program and serves as the liaison between SSU athletics SSU student life

   • Promotes and helps create a campus environment that fosters student engagement, activities and retention.
   • Assists with marketing plan for athletics in regards to campus involvement for all SSU athletic events, helps streamline communication for coaches, teams, and other campus departments (Marketing and Communications, Student Life, etc.).
   • Help to establish guidelines, procedures, and policies for offering and distributing athletic scholarships, as well as signing the Letter of Intent.
   • Works closely with Student Engagement & Leadership Director, Multicultural & Student Life Coordinator, RAs and other staff to enhance campus events including but not limited to: Bear Runs, WoW, SSU Sporting Events, IM events, etc.
     

Minimum Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

MINIMUM JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Previous coaching experience at the collegiate level
2. Knowledge of coaching strategies, recruiting, and eligibility rules of the NCAA or other governing bodies
3. Knowledge of the workings of higher education in regards to student retention and progress towards graduation
4. Good communication skills to speak with recruits, parents, and students
   

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)

1. Bachelor's degree in Sports Administration/Coaching or related field
2. Two (2) to three (3) years of related experience
3. MVR

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master's degree or higher in an administrative field (Sports Management or Administration) 2. Collegiate Head Coaching experience a the NCAA level 3. Demonstrated success in coaching and recruiting student athletes
