_ Current Opening _
The Head Coach will assume a competitive Men’s Basketball program which is well positioned for continued success on the court. The Head Coach will plan/direct the activities of the men’s team and is directly responsible for the recruitment and retention of student athletes. The Head Coach is expected to meet or exceed annual recruiting goals for the Men’s Basketball team as determined in collaboration with the VP for Athletics & Community Outreach. Supports overall Athletics recruiting efforts at the College, and may recruit for other sports as deemed appropriate by the VP for Athletics & Community Outreach.
The successful candidate will guide and oversee conditioning of student athletes, instruct players in techniques of the game, assess players’ skills, assign positions, evaluate own and opposing team capabilities, promote camaraderie and instill good sportsmanship. The Head Coach collaborates with the Athletics Division and across the College to support student success and to meet departmental and College-wide goals and objectives. The Head Coach oversees a regular, part-time Assistant Coach and a volunteer Assistant Coach. In the spirit of our Mercy heritage and traditions, the Head Coach plans and leads at least one Community service initiative for the Men’s Basketball team annually.
As a DIII Institution, Mount Aloysius emphasizes the importance of academics and expects coaching staff to monitor student athletes’ academic progress. The Head Coach will focus on developing the whole student athlete, fostering competitive excellence, high academics, accountability and integrity. The Head Coach is responsible to comply with NCAA Division III and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regulations; and is subject to NCAA enforcement provisions for violations.

_ Qualifications _
Bachelor’s degree in physical education, sports management, recreation, health, or related field of study required. Minimum of three (3) years’ coaching experience as an assistant coach or high school head coach required, or equivalent combination of coaching and playing experience. Knowledge of NCAA Division III and AMCC rules and regulations strongly preferred. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are required. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, student athletes/players, and recruits a must. Should be able to foresee risks and anticipate needs, and make sound decisions
The successful candidate must be willing and available to travel and work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and some holidays.
This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time; all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of their application.
