Overseeing all coaching techniques and strategies and supervising coaching staff.
Maintaining primary responsibility for teaching, coaching, and development of student-athletes including recruitment, monitoring academic performance and social development, maintaining discipline and development programs, fundraising activities, coordinating summer camps, pre- and post-conditioning, practice and games.
Overseeing individual training sessions to ensure the health and well-being of the men’s soccer team.
Working closely with the Athletic Trainer to develop positive conditioning programs for the student-athletes.
Ensuring quality and consistency of functional training sessions such as specialized training sessions conducted for the attacking players to improve their movement in the final third of the field and creating more goalscoring opportunities.
Recruitment
Developing and enhancing a comprehensive recruiting plan.
Being primarily responsible for recruiting academically and athletically qualified student-athletes for admission to the University with adherence to admissions and athletic department policies and procedures.
Attending nationally recognized events which include, but not limited to: ECNL, US Soccer DA, National Premier league and High School games, for the purpose of evaluation and contact of prospective student-athletes.
Evaluating prospective student-athletes on their technical, tactical, physical, and psychology components, in conjunction with the philosophy of the head coach and soccer program.
Ensuring that official visits for prospective student-athletes are organized and conducted while complying with the rules of the Sunshine State Conference and NCAA.
Team Administration
Establishing, planning, and maintaining long-term and short-term objectives for the team.
Hiring of assistant coaches with concurrence of the Director of Athletics.
Supervising and assigning responsibilities to coaching team, team managers and graduate assistants, if applicable.
Upgrading team schedule to ensure the calendar and time management plan is provided to the student-athletes in conjunction with NCAA rules, with considerations of missed classes, examination periods, and other factors that could affect their academic success.
Communicating all travel needs to the Director of Athletics or the Assistant Athletics Director.
Overseeing quality maintenance of the facility during use, equipment inventory and proper distribution to athletes, and always following NSU procedures in handling all ordering supplies and any funds that flow through the athletic program.
Ensuring strict compliance with all NCAA and Sunshine State Conference rules and regulations.
Scouting
Scouting upcoming opponents and ensuring assistant coaches are scouting at least 50% of games during the season and presenting a scouting report, including video, to the team prior to competition.
Conducting statistical analysis to evaluate upcoming opponents, to recognize their strengths and weaknesses, and create strategies to exploit those weaknesses.
Using of InStat, Gamebreaker, and Microsoft Office to organize charts and statistics, as well as video clips to provide the team with a visual on the upcoming opponent, in addition to a presentation given on each game day.
During tournament play, scout the upcoming opponent on a live platform. Write detailed notes on the upcoming opponent to share with the head coach and the team. Notes should include system of play, key players, tendencies, set pieces, areas of weakness.
Academics
Working with academic advisor for the team by coordinating practice times and travel with each student-athlete's class schedule.
Maintaining regular communication with the Associate Athletics Director for Academics and Student Development and the Assistant Coach for men's soccer; scheduling a weekly meeting, as needed.
Collaborating with the academic advisor to create a calendar for the student-athletes which lists all upcoming events, exam schedules, travel dates for missed classes, study hall and tutoring times.
Ensuring availability of academic study hall for the student-athletes while they travel for away games so they can maintain a high GPA. On average, a team GPA of 3.4 is a minimum expectation, with many of the teams making the Dean's List of 3.0 or above.
Campus/Community Communications
Assisting the Sports Information Director in the promotion of the program.
Participating actively in fundraising and related special events to raise scholarship funds for the Athletics program at NSU.
Performing responsibilities on campus committees as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Interacting with various campus offices, departments and faculty.
Maintaining effective communication with faculty relating to monitoring academic progress of student-athletes and development of academic improvement strategies for athletes.
Serving as guest speaker at public events on behalf of NSU Athletics, as designated or requested.
Serving in a leadership role and promoting participation in community service activities by student athletes.
Coordinating community service and NSU athletics-to-school programs.
Knowledge:
Administration and Management - Knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources.
English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language.
NCAA Rules and Regulations – Strong working knowledge and understanding of all NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues.
Sport Experience – Extensive knowledge of individual and team skills with the ability to teach these skills.
