| Job Description Summary |
Lewis University, an NCAA Division II institution located 35 miles southwest of Chicago and a proud member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), invites applications for the position of Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The Lewis Flyers are a nationally recognized athletics program, consistently finishing among the Learfield Directors’ Cup Top 20 and consecutive winner of the past three GLVC Commissioner’s Cup. Under minimal supervision, the Head Men’s Basketball Coach will provide leadership and direction for all aspects of the men’s basketball program in compliance with NCAA Division II and conference bylaws and regulations. This position leads recruiting, coaching, and student-athlete development; oversees training, competition, and program operations; and builds strong campus and community relationships in support of Lewis University’s mission and commitment to academic and competitive excellence.

| Responsibilities |
Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
-Design and lead practice plans and skill development sessions that emphasize individual growth, team performance, and competitive excellence.
-Develop and oversee year-round strength, conditioning, and performance programs in collaboration with sports performance staff, athletic trainers, and team physicians.
-Manage competition scheduling, including non-conference games and tournaments, in alignment with departmental and conference priorities.
-Oversee the men’s basketball operating budget, including equipment, travel, and program expenditures, in accordance with university and departmental policies.
-Partner with academic support services to promote academic progress, retention, and graduation of student-athletes.
-Serve as an active partner in fundraising, donor engagement, and development initiatives in collaboration with athletics advancement staff to support program growth and long-term sustainability
-Coordinate team travel and logistics for away contests, including transportation, lodging, and meals.
-Collaborate with athletics administrative leadership and support units to support program operations, facility needs, fundraising, external engagement, and overall program success.
-Advocate for and nominate student-athletes for conference and national recognition and awards
-Serve as a visible ambassador for the program through media engagement, community outreach, and public appearances.
-Engage in ongoing professional development through coaching clinics, conferences, and continuing education.
-Maintain full compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional rules, policies, and best practices.
ADDITIONAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY MAY INCLUDE:
-Assisting in special projects and/or activities.
-Serve on university committees and/or task forces as assigned.
-Provide assistance to the Athletic Director in program/departmental planning activities

| Minimum Qualifications |
Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of seven (7) years demonstrated successful coaching experience at the collegiate level, with progressive responsibility in program management and leadership. Experience should include recruiting and retaining student athletes, budget management, staff supervision, and program management.

| Preferred Qualifications |
Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Education, Sports Management, Kinesiology, or Administration). Head coaching experience at the college level. Established record of success in competitive performance and post-season play. Demonstrated fundraising, donor relations, and community engagement experience. Experience mentoring and supporting student-athletes in academic, athletic, and personal development.
