Position Summary Information
Adhere to all rules and regulations mandated by Shippensburg University, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Advise student-athletes and staff on applicable rules and regulations and ensure compliance of such policies.Plan and manage all program competitions and practices, including in-season and out-of-season player development and strength and conditioning.Attend all team practices and competitions.Coordinate all activities in preparation for scheduled competition.Coordinate selection and scheduling of intercollegiate competitions.Oversee recruitment of quality student-athletes and determine athletically-related scholarship allocation.Monitor student-athlete academic performance and implement appropriate measures in support of their academic performance with emphasis on retention and graduation.Inform student-athletes about University, PSAC, and NCAA matters pertaining to their enrollment and educational progress.Discipline student-athletes for infractions of team rules, regulations, and policies.Work within the budgetary guidelines, manage all program budgets, and administer allotted operating resources to provide necessary program-related equipment and supplies.Oversee all program travel arrangements.Participate in fundraising events and the promotion of positive public relations, including community engagement opportunities.Assist sports information staff with publicity efforts.Annually, successfully complete the NCAA recruiting exam and First Aid and Safety and CPR certifications.Participate in national and/or state coaches’ organizations and/or NCAA committees.Instruct student-athletes and assistant coaches on the principles and rules of the sport.Cooperate with athletic trainers to ensure student-athletes receive proper medical and physical training services.Ensure appropriate safety precautions are followed when conducting team activities.Manage and evaluate performance of all assistant coaches and staff.Recruit volunteer coaches to augment staff.Submit head coach and assistant coaches’ monthly work schedules to the athletics administration.Attend appropriate athletics department staff meetings.Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree with experience coaching and/or teaching the sport of tennis or similar experience.
