The Head Softball Coach is responsible for all aspects of planning, developing, and managing a successful intercollegiate sports program in accordance with the standards and goals set by William Peace University and within
NCAA
requirements.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES
AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
:
• Adhere to all applicable
NCAA
and University regulations, policies, and procedures that relate to recruiting, daily program management, and operation of the individual sport.
• Recruit high-quality student-athletes by personal contact, phone, and written correspondence with player, coach, and parents. Evaluate ability of prospect in person or through videotape analysis. Make frequent off-campus trips to watch games/matches/meets. Utilize departmental and university tools (Front Rush/Slate) to identify, track, and tag prospective student-athletes. Arrange on-campus visits for prospective student-athletes with a designated athletic administrator and/or the Office of Admissions. Ensure compliance with
NCAA
guidelines for contacting and communicating with prospects.
• Coordinate annually with the Director of Athletics that roster goals are in line with enrollment goals of the University.
• Schedule competitive games, practices, facility, and vehicle use in conjunction with the Director of Athletics and other university staff.
• Schedule, plan, and lead practices. Ensure compliance with
NCAA
regulations on Playing Season.
• Evaluate team and individual performance. Develop and implement strategies for motivating student-athletes to perform at maximum levels as both individuals and a team.
• Develop sport/team budget and monitor to ensure funding adequacy.
• Oversee the selection, purchase, fitting, and maintenance of team equipment including uniforms and supplies. Submit equipment and budget requests to the Associate Director of Athletics.
• Ensure the safety of student-athletes and staff through careful monitoring of the condition of equipment and facilities utilized by the Softball Program.
• Coordinate team travel.
• Prepare game plans based on scouting reports and team evaluation.
• Assist with home athletic event game management.
• Monitor the eligibility status and promote the academic progress of student-athletes.
• Compile data and report statistical data after each game/season in collaboration with the Sports Information office.
• Assist with approved fundraising activities, as requested.
• Participate in clinics, exhibitions, and camps, as approved.
• Attend Athletic Department staff meetings and other University meetings and functions to fulfill the role effectively and successfully.
• Monitor community service activities and professional development opportunities for student-athletes.
• Work with a diverse population of prospective student athletes, students, families, employees, and guests.
SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervise Assistant Coaches and Volunteer Coaches in all aspects of team management.
• Responsible for ensuring that all Assistants are in compliance with both
NCAA
and William Peace University rules and regulations.
