Position Summary:

The Head Coach for Women’s Basketball is responsible for the oversight and management of the women’s basketball program. This role involves developing a competitive program that represents the institution and the community positively, while fostering sportsmanship, character, and citizenship among student-athletes. The coach is responsible for team performance, compliance with institutional and league regulations, recruitment of athletes, and ensuring a high-quality student-athlete experience.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop a competitive program that will represent the institution and community in a positive manner, while creating a culture sportsmanship for our student athletes. 
• Teaching and refining skills and techniques. 
• Preparation of daily practices and season plans using all technology available (ex: video analysis). 
• Scheduling of practices, scrimmages, strength & conditioning sessions, and games. 
• Oversee recruitment and retention of student athletes year-round, meeting required roster numbers (as determined by director of athletics). Completing national letters of intent for committed student athletes. Plan and attend recruiting events on campus and use of all department resources therein.
• Participation in athletic department and college sponsored meetings and events. 
• Timely reporting of any violations of associated rules and regulations to the director of athletics. 
• Submission of required paperwork to the athletic office as required (rosters, meet entries and payments, receipt vouchers, etc.) 
• Promote a team culture that promotes character and citizenship through establishment of team rules and enforcement of those rules throughout the year (submission of rules to director of athletics).

• Always conduct oneself in a positive manner including social media presence. 
• Meet on a scheduled basis with all team members. Meetings to be scheduled by head coach in advance on calendar basis. 
• Recruitment and monitoring of assistant coach to include annual performance program and evaluation. 
• Abiding by all associated rules and regulations of the college and various governing organizations (i.e., Albany College of Pharmacy and Health sciences, Unites States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of sport, rules, and regulations
• Knowledge of strength & conditioning related to sport.
• Ability to actively participate in practice sessions.
• Knowledge of YSCC, USCAA, NCAA, ECAC rules and regulations

Education and Experience: 

• Bachelor’s degree required. Masters preferred.
• Previous collegiate, club, or high school coaching experience required.
• CPR and AED certifications. May obtain during employment.
• Appropriate coaching certifications

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.   The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Additional Information:  This position is based in Albany, NY. The duties and responsibilities of this role require the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or interaction with our community, requiring all work to be performed full-time on-site. Nights and Weekend availability is necessary. Additional details pertaining to this position will be discussed during the interview process.
