Geneva College is a Christian liberal arts college in the reformed tradition located about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1848 by the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, Geneva has majors in both liberal arts and pre-professional programs, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Geneva's faculty provide a challenging education that prepares students for careers, for further education, and for life. In all fields of study, students are challenged to explore the implications of the Christian faith on their discipline. Geneva has approximately 1,350 students enrolled in its various programs taught by its faculty of nearly 70 members. The college seeks to prepare students to serve Christ and the world in all areas of society, including work, family, and the church. The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.
Summary of Responsibilities : The women’s lacrosse head coach provides overall direction of the program which competes in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) and NCAA Division III. The primary responsibility for the head coach is to develop a consistently competitive program through the instruction of student-athletes during practice sessions, pre-game preparation, and athletic contests. In addition to instructing student-athletes in how to perform their sport, they will also provide instruction on physical health, team concepts and safety. A secondary responsibility for the head coach is the recruitment and retention of a full roster of student-athletes set at an appropriate number as determined by the coach and the Chief Athletics Officer/Director of Athletics. The coach also assists admissions in recruiting prospective students who express interest in participating in the program.
Essential Responsibilities : (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)
The essential responsibility of the women’s lacrosse head coach is to coach (teach) student athletes in their sport. They are charged to help each individual student-athlete to reach their full-potential in the athletic arena through instruction of physical health, team concepts and safety.
Coaches all aspects of the assigned sport to include but not limited to:
Model Christian attitudes and behaviors for student-athletes, students, staff, and fans.
Conducts practices to instruct student-athletes in game strategies and techniques of the sport.
Instruct players on proper conditioning and safe practice/ play techniques to avoid injuries.
Assess players’ skills during practices and competitions and provide correction and instruction to improve player’s skills and overall performance.
Instruct players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Maintains up-do-date knowledge of, and compliance with, Geneva College, NCAA Division III, and PAC rules and regulations.
Schedules pre-season and in-season contests as well as organizing practices and one play day during the non-traditional season in consultation with the Chief Athletics Officer/Director of Athletics.
Organizes and conducts practices and conditioning sessions within the rules of NCAA Division III.
Works with the Chief Athletics Officer/Director of Athletics and facilities staff to oversee the maintenance of practice and game venues.
Fields competitive teams when playing other Division III colleges and universities. This is to be assessed over a three-to-five-year time span by (1) a minimum of 2/3’s of conference contests is either wins or “competitive losses” (as judged by the Chief Athletics Officer/Director of Athletics) over a three to five-year time period and (2) the team can be in contention for conference championships on a periodic basis.
Coordinates the distribution, collection, and storage of athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies (during the season and at its conclusion) and the collection of fees for lost equipment and uniforms by student-athletes.
Hires and supervises part-time staff according to established Geneva College and Athletic Department procedures.
Demonstrates concern for the spiritual, academic, physical, and emotional well-being of each team member:
Actively encourages and supports the Christian faith of team members, which includes encouraging and instructing them in spiritual disciplines such as church attendance, prayer, and Bible study. In the case of non-Christian team members, actively encourages them to consider the claims of Christ on their lives.
Actively encourage, support, and educate team members on the importance of academic success by encouraging or ensuring regular class attendance, monitoring grades, and working to minimize conflicts between athletic and academic responsibilities.
Actively encourage, support, and educate team members on the importance of their physical well-being by working with the training staff and other appropriate medical personnel to ensure that the student-athletes are physically ready to participate, which includes looking for signs of eating disorders or the use of illegal and/or unhealthful drugs and supplements and taking appropriate preventive measures and establishing healthy workout and practice schedules.
Actively encourages and supports the psychological and emotional well-being of team members, provides appropriate mentoring and life guidance, and seeks professional assistance when circumstances warrant.
Recruitment:
Recruit student-athletes in line with college policy, NCAA Division III, and PAC regulations. Works closely with the admissions department to this end. The head coach has a specific recruiting target for new freshmen as well as a target roster size. As a start-up program scheduled to begin competition in the spring of 2025, the roster should include 18-20 student-athletes. The freshmen recruiting goal will be assessed each year with a minimum requirement of 6-8 new freshmen each year.
In consultation with the faculty athletic representative, Chief Athletics Officer/Director of Athletics, and the Registrar’s Office, assures that student-athletes are eligible to participate in athletics according to college policy, and NCAA regulations.
Demonstrates knowledge of Slate recruiting software and works directly with admissions counselors on communications to prospective student-athletes.
Financial Management:
Adheres to budget guidelines and keeps records and writes reports.
Works with the Chief Athletics Officer/Director of Athletics, the College’s business office, facilities, and other offices as appropriate to purchase necessary sport-specific athletic equipment and supplies.
Ensures safe and cost-effective travel to and from contests.
Directs the process of raising additional funds for women’s lacrosse with approval of the Chief Athletics Officer/Director of Athletics.
Other:
Actively participates in athletic department functions and meetings, and in college committees as assigned.
Maintains effective working relationships with administrative staff, coaches, student-athletes, and other staff.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Supervision:
Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.

Qualifications:
Minimum:
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: Four years coaching at high school (head coach) and/or two years coaching at collegiate level
Skill/Abilities: Valid Driver’s license. Willingness to travel, including overnight and weekends. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Operate a PC and related software.
Christian Commitment: Eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
Preferred:
Education/Certification: Master’s or equivalent in the field of Physical Education
Experience: Three to five years coaching at the collegiate level
