Job Title: Head Gymnastics Coach Location: Long Island University (LIU)
Department: Athletics – NCAA Division I Women’s Gymnastics
The Head Gymnastics Coach at LIU is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the NCAA Division I women's gymnastics program. Under minimal supervision, the coach provides leadership in recruiting, training, and developing student-athletes while ensuring adherence to University andNCAA Division I rules and regulations. The coach oversees planning, budgeting, and daily program operations and works to promote the academic success, health, safety, and welfare of student-athletes. The Head Coach collaborates with other athletics personnel to ensure the program'ssuccess and is expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence both on and of the mat. Additional duties may be assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Key Responsibilities:
• Fosters a safe and positive environment for student-athletes, prioritizing health and wellbeing.
• Direct all aspects of coaching and team management, including the development and execution of training programs and competition strategies.
• Lead and coordinate recruitment efforts to identify and attract top -tier student-athletes, ensuring compliance with NCAA Division I recruiting guidelines.
• Oversee the academic progress of student-athletes, supporting them in balancing their athletics and academic commitments.
• Manage the gymnastics program’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and adherence to University policies.
• Cultivate a positive and inclusive team culture, emphasizing sportsmanship, leadership, and personal growth.
• Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and University regulations, policies, and guidelines.
• Work closely with other athletic department staff to promote the growth and success of the gymnastics program.
• Represent LIU Gymnasticswithin the broader community to foster support and elevate the program’s profile.
• Engage in proffessional development opportunities to stay current with gymnastics training trends, recruiting, and coaching strategies.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills,with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of student-athletes, staff, and community members.
• Comprehensive understanding of gymnastics coaching techniques, training, and competition strategies.
• Ability to enforce safety procedures and create a safe training environment for student - athletes.
• Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations, including recruiting practices and student-athlete retention.
• Experience with fiscal management, including budgeting and financial planning for athletic programs.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to guide and mentor Division I student-athletes.
• Capacity to make effective administrative and procedural decisions.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to foster a collaborative and cooperative work environment.
• Commitment to the academic success and overall development of student-athletes.
Minimum Qualifcations:
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree prefferred.
• Proven experience in coaching women’s gymnastics at the collegiate or elite level, with a successful track record in program management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
• Strong recruiting background and experience developing talent.
Work Environment: This position requires a fexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and travel. The candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
