The Head Esports Coach provides leadership for all aspects of the esports program at KCU. The Head Coach will be a mature Christian leader committed to utilizing esports as a tool for advancing the University’s Christ-centered mission; developing student athletes from academic, spiritual, and educational perspectives; and establishing a culture of competitive excellence, digital professionalism, and integrity.
This is a part-time, twelve-month position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Head Esports Coach will advance the University’s mission to educate students for Christian leadership and service in the church and professions throughout the world. An overarching passion for this mission must be demonstrated and upheld as a standard within all esports operations of the University.
The Head Esports Coach, as a highly visible representative of the University in digital and competitive spaces, will represent the University in a Christ-honoring and professional manner, while ensuring that student athletes and staff do likewise in all in-person and online interactions.
The Head Esports Coach will actively serve as a Christian mentor to student athletes, promoting spiritual growth, accountability, and leadership development.
The Head Esports Coach will supervise all assistant coaches, graduate assistants, student workers, and support personnel associated with the esports program.
The Head Esports Coach is responsible for the recruitment, evaluation, training, and coaching of all student athletes within the esports program.
The Head Esports Coach is responsible for generating additional funds to support the esports program (i.e., camps, clinics, high school tournaments, streaming initiatives, donor engagement, etc.).
The Head Esports Coach is responsible for maintaining an environment in which student athletes demonstrate retention and graduation rates at or above those of the overall University. Concurrently, the Head Esports Coach must maintain roster numbers agreed upon during each budget cycle.
The Head Esports Coach is responsible for overseeing esports facility care, technology inventory, hardware and software maintenance, and coordination with Information Technology services.
The Head Esports Coach is responsible for overall program administration, including development and exercise of an annual budget.

The Head Esports Coach is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the recruiting process, from prospect identification to scheduling and completing campus visits to final enrollment. A bias in favor of recruiting students from Kentucky and extending to KCU’s traditional “market” of contiguous states and constituent churches will be demonstrated in recruitment strategies and goals.
The Head Esports Coach must be highly communicative with prospective students, families, faculty, staff, and the overall campus community.
The Head Esports Coach will maintain and comply with all policies, rules, and regulations included in the KCU Staff Handbook.
The Head Esports Coach will ensure program integrity with regard to requirements of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and any affiliated esports leagues or governing bodies.

The following requirements will be used when determining the person to fill the position of Head Esports Coach:
The Head Esports Coach will demonstrate spiritual maturity and a history of Christian leadership and will enthusiastically utilize esports as a tool in fostering spiritual growth in student athletes.
The Head Esports Coach must enthusiastically support the mission and vision of Kentucky Christian University and its core values.
The Head Esports Coach will have an effective recruiting plan/strategy.
The Head Esports Coach serves as a part-time, twelve-month employee and is eligible for benefits consistent with University policy for part-time staff.
A master’s degree is preferred, but applicants with lesser academic achievement will be considered.
Collegiate coaching experience and/or competitive esports experience is preferred.
OTHER ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:
Current KCU operations and facility design ordinarily require the individual to reach, bend, lift, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform similar physical functions while carrying out the duties of Head Coach (e.g., transporting equipment, setting up gaming stations, managing cables and hardware, loading materials, and maintaining office and arena space). The position also requires extended periods of screen time and seated computer work. All individuals must be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury or otherwise demonstrate how they can perform the essential functions listed above.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Education: A master’s degree is preferred; High School Diploma required.
Experience: At least three years related experience and/or training in esports, coaching, technology management, or student leadership; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Values: The Head Coach must be sympathetic with the mission and purpose of Kentucky Christian University and enthusiastically support the University’s core values. The Head Coach must be a self-starter who inspires excellence in others by his/her own work ethic. The Head Coach must accept ownership of his/her area of responsibility and provide leadership throughout the University community as it relates to the nature, function, and scope of the esports program.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The successful candidate must be adherent to the Stone-Campbell Restoration tradition (e.g., Christian Church and/or Churches of Christ).
Part-time salary, Exempt or Non-Exempt classification determined in accordance with University policy. Hours to be coordinated with the Athletic Director; evening and weekend hours required for recruiting and competition.
