Description

This position will be required to adhere to the direction of team physicians and the Director(s) of Sports Medicine performing all duties required as an athletic trainer including but not limited to injury prevention, evaluation and diagnosis, immediate emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation, and medical record keeping for athletes. In addition, this position will be required to oversee day-to-day operations, game management responsibilities at assigned games, and other administrative duties assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.

• Supervises and trains football athletic training staff and student employees.
• Responsible for conducting initial assessments and providing emergency or continued care of football athlete injuries or illnesses and determines whether an injured athlete should be referred to Team Physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.

Description

Job Duties

• Oversees day-to-day operations of the football athletic training room and all Sports Medicine activities for football.
• Supervises and trains football athletic training staff and student employees.
• Responsible for conducting initial assessments and providing emergency or continued care of football athlete injuries or illnesses and determines whether an injured athlete should be referred to Team Physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
• Supervises care of football athlete injuries utilizing therapy equipment/modalities and rehabilitation or treatment techniques.
• Evaluates and treats orthopedic and muscular injuries by utilizing manual therapy, modalities, therapeutic exercise, bracing, splinting and custom orthotic fabrication.
• Assists with planning and ensuring appropriate levels of medical and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) coverage availability for football games.
• Coordinate and schedule medical appointments, medical referrals, and mental health evaluations for student-athletes to determine return to play status.
• Oversee inventory and tracking of all football sports medicine equipment and supplies.
• Responsible to generate injury reports and consult with the Director of Sports Medicine and Team Physicians on injury situations. Responsible for communicating injury reports to coaching staff and Sports Performance staff members.
• Recruit and supervise work-study and scholarship students helping in the sports medicine department.
• Complies with all applicable National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Southern Conference (SOCON) regulations in the performance of job duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field which leads to athletic training certification.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience working in collegiate athletics
• Working knowledge of federal laws including Title IX, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations
• Certified by the Board of Certification; member of National Athletic Trainers’ Association
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Alabama by the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers
• Ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College including, but not limited to, student-athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, staff, faculty, civic and business leaders.
• Demonstrate positive attitude and team-oriented approach to work responsibilities.
• Extensive knowledge of federal laws including Title IX, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations
• Excellent analytic, organization and problem-solving skills with ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with students, employees, and external agencies.
• Strong computer software skills such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Athletic Training.
