Position Summary:
Central State University seeks a visionary and student-centered leader to serve as the Head Football Coach for its
NCAA
Division II football program. The Head Coach is responsible for the development, management, and administration of a competitive and successful football program that embodies the university’s mission to foster academic excellence, leadership development, and community engagement. This individual will inspire student-athletes to excel academically, athletically, and personally while upholding the highest ethical standards and ensuring compliance with
NCAA
,
SIAC
, and university policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership and Administration
• Recruit, mentor, and develop student-athletes who exemplify academic, athletic, and personal excellence.
• Oversee all aspects of the football program, including practice planning, game preparation, and team performance.
• Administer and manage the program budget in alignment with department guidelines.
• Schedule and coordinate team travel, games, and practices in compliance with
NCAA
and
SIAC
regulations.
• Procure equipment and uniforms in accordance with university policies.
• Supervise assistant coaches, volunteer assistants, and program staff to maintain a collaborative, high-performing team.
• Actively participate in and create fundraising initiatives to support program growth and development.
Athletic and Competitive Excellence
o Plan and conduct coaching and practice sessions and strength and conditioning programing with the Director of Strength and Conditioning, to ensure student-athletes are prepared for competition.
o Develop and implement game strategies, position assignments, and training plans to foster competitive success.
o Serve as a role model in demonstrating game techniques and maintaining a high standard of sportsmanship.
Student-Athlete Well-being and Academic Success
• Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes in collaboration with the Athletics Academic Advisor.
• Develop academic support programs to ensure student-athlete eligibility and timely graduation in line with directive from the Director of Student-Athlete Success
• Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for student-athletes to thrive.
• Ensure the overall well-being of student-athletes, emphasizing physical, mental, and emotional health.
Community Engagement and Fundraising
• Represent Central State University and Marauder Athletics at public events, alumni gatherings, and local community functions.
• Organize and lead community service and engagement activities that promote the university and football program.
• Engage in robust fundraising efforts to support program needs and enhancements.
Departmental Support
• Participate in departmental meetings, events, and initiatives.
• Assist with event management for other sports as needed and assigned.
• Serve as an active member of committees and advisory boards, including the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (
SAAC
).
Other Duties as Assigned
• Perform additional responsibilities as required to support the Athletics Department and university mission.
• Actively collaborate with staff and faculty to enhance the student-athlete experience.

Additional Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year collegiate institution.
• At least 3 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level with a proven record of recruiting and competitive success.
• Strong commitment to the academic success and well-being of student-athletes.
• Demonstrated knowledge of
NCAA
and
SIAC
compliance rules and regulations.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Regular, reliable attendance and a commitment to fostering a student-centered, team-oriented culture.
• Master’s degree in an appropriate field.
• 5+ years of successful collegiate coaching and recruiting experience, with a record of taking teams to postseason championships.
• Previous
NCAA
Division I or II experience.
• Experience managing program operations, including budgets, facilities, and staff oversight.
