The Head Football Coach provides leadership and direction for the college’s football team, including but not limited to program budgeting, student recruitment, training and development of staff and players. The Head Football Coach is responsible for the development of student-athletes both on and off the field and supports the mission of Division III athletics, and the mission of the college. This position reports to the Director of Athletics.
This is an on-site position in Jackson, MS with regular daily office hours.
Job Duties
Recruit and evaluate high school and college athletes within college admissions and NCAA Division III guidelines;
Facilitate team compliance with all NCAA Division III, Southern Athletics Association (SAA), and Millsaps College philosophies, emphasizing quality educational experience and academic success;
Provide on field coaching of athlete skill development and assistant coach development;
Supervise and develop assistant coaches;
Strategically plan and executive team practice schedules and sessions;
Manage and balance yearly program budget;
Oversee team travel and logistics, including vehicles, lodging, and meals;
Coordinate information exchanges with conference & non-conference opponents;
Monitor academic progress by student athletes involving grade reports, study skill development, and counseling;

Monitor academic progress by student athletes involving grade reports, study skill development, and counseling;
Plan and coordinate scouting opponents;
Lead fund-raising programs to augment operations budget;
Maintain parent and alumnae communication;
Oversee the management and maintenance of equipment inventory;
Accept game-day administrator obligations each semester, if necessary;
Partner with the Department of Athletics and Division of Student Life to find new and exciting ways to energize the scholastics-sports environment at Millsaps College;
Participate in various other areas of interest for the College and Department of Athletics;
Organize community service activities for team members and coaches;
Accept additional duties assigned by the Athletics Director.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in physical education, kinesiology or a relevant field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience; Master’s Degree preferred;
Minimum 5 years successful college/high school coaching experience; Division III experience preferred;
College and/or professional playing experience preferred;
CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain within 3 months of employment required;
Proven ability to promote a positive team environment and cultivate good morale;
Highly organized, creative problem-solver who takes initiative;
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools. Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to varying technological environments.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work long hours, nights and weekends while in season and as needed for recruiting
Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance
Must have a valid state-issued driver’s license
Must be able to traverse college campus and climb stairs
Occasional stooping, bending, lifting and reaching are required
Manual dexterity needed for demonstrating proper form and technique, participating in team practices and other repetitive tasks
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
