Position Overview

| Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The NCCU Department of Athletics’ primary purpose is to provide leadership for an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program. The NCCU Department of Athletics places the highest priority on a quality academic and athletic experience as part of the overall education of student-athletes. The Department of Athletics seeks to strengthen the integration of the athletics program objectives with academic development objectives. | | Primary Purpose of Position |
Directs, provides leadership, and oversees all coaching duties for an intercollegiate Men’s & Women’s Golf programs operating under NCAA Division I operating bylaws and regulations. Directs and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and training for athletic competition, and oversees the planning and fiscal management of program activities. Must comply with University and NCAA Division I rules and regulations. Must work cooperatively and responsibly with other departmental personnel. Responsible for operating within the budgetary limitation of the program. Must support the student-athlete concept and demonstrate concern for the health, safety, and welfare of each student-athlete. Must support, encourage, and monitor student-athletes’ academic progress. Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. | | Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
· 3-5 years’ experience among the game of golf in capacities as a coach, teaching professional, or student-athlete

· Proven successful coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level

· NCAA Division I program experience preferred. Proven evidence of commitment to academic excellence, including student-athlete graduation

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

· Proven relationships with external components of the golf industry (ex. USGA, GCA, PGA, and club manufactures)

· Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program.

· Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques; including the NCAA transfer portal, relevant premier junior golf programs/tournaments, and local junior golf organizations.

· Ability to schedule tournaments and coordinate travel

· Ability to operate in fundraising capacity with donors and corporate sponsors.

· Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management

· Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes in area of specialty

· Knowledge of NCAA Division I regulation and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes

· Ability to foster a cooperative work environment

· Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgements

· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

· Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques | | Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred

· Present evidence of strong organizational and communication skills and current knowledge of NCAA regulations

· 1-3 years’ experience associated with the game of golf; in capacities as a coach, teaching professional, or intercollege student-athlete

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Executes daily operations of the sports program; directs, supervises, and coordinates all administrative facets. Coordinates all operational aspects of both women’s and men’s golf program. Manages the financial operation of the sports program. |
