Purpose: Oak Hills Christian College athletics exists to enhance the mission of the college by
encouraging student athletes to grow in their faith, while pursuing academic and athletic excellence with
the ultimate goal of glorifying God and impacting the world for Him.
General Summary:
The Men's & Women's Cross Country Coach is responsible for oversight of the Men's & Women's Cross
Country program at Oak Hills Christian College. This responsibility includes the planning, development,
and management of the Men's & Women's Cross Country program.
An individual in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential
functions. These examples do not include all of the duties the individual may be expected to
perform.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Coach the Men's & Women's Cross Country team in games and practices
- Develop student-athletes ’skills through instruction and practice
- Support the academic growth and success of student-athletes
- Provide all aspects of organization and management of specific teams in workouts, practices, and games
- Recruit Christian student-athletes to fill the Cross Country roster
- Actively ensure and oversee the effective recruitment of student athletes in coordination with the
Admissions Department in line with the college’s mission and institutional enrollment criteria. The final
authority for enrollment is the responsibility of the Director of Admissions.
- Scheduling of games and practices
- Coordinating travel for the Men's & Women's Cross Country team
- Monitoring of athlete academics
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Athletic Director in specified duties including but not limited to
Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
Providing assistance to other athletic department coaches and staff when it comes to
the recruitment of student-athletes
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree required. Previous playing or coaching and recruiting experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and minimum qualifications:
- Have a visible passion for God
- Clear gospel-centered, evangelical Christian testimony
- Presently attends a local evangelical church and is active in ministry
- Fully embrace the doctrinal position, mission, and values of Oak Hills and the denominational diversity
of OHCC
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently
- Demonstrate a high level of understanding of Cross Country, and an ability to communicate that to
others
- Communication skills (verbal, written, presentation)
- Listening skills
- Time management skills
- Must be adaptable and flexible
- Must be team oriented
- Ability to utilize computer software
- Ability to pass a background check
Working Environment:
- Regular Travel
- Irregular Hours including some weekends and holidays
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Able to travel
- Able to lift and/or move 25 lbs
- Able to handle stress and emotional situations
- Hold a current drivers license
