A direct report to the Fairmont State University Athletic Director, oversees all aspects of the Fairmont State Men’s and Women’s Swimming program (
NCAA
II) in accordance with
NCAA
, Mountain East Conference (
MEC
) and applicable University policies. Demonstrates commitment to the missions/visions of both
FSU
and the Athletic Department; fosters the academic development of student athletes; and ensures that the student athletes, coaching staff and programs present a positive image of Fairmont State in all aspects. Developing/maintaining ongoing fundraising/gift programs is a major duty/responsibility. Fulltime/11-month/supervisory position.
Recruits/trains/coaches the student athletes of the men’s and women’s swimming program.
Maintains thorough/continuing familiarity/compliance with the constitution/bylaws/interpretations of
NCAA
II,
MEC
and
FSU
policies, regulations and rules pertaining to the conduct/administration of the men’s and women’s swimming program.
Oversees the process/conduct of/actively participates in recruiting student athletes, including developing a positive working relationship with University faculty/staff to assist in the recruiting process.
Organizes/manages practices, competitions, competition organization, off-campus travel, summer camps/clinics and promotional initiatives.
Schedules games in coordination with and the approval of the Athletic Director.
Oversees the management/maintenance of all equipment and facilities associated with the men’s and women’s swimming program.
Ensures the program’s compliance with all established State and institutional operational procurement procedures.
Assists and gives input into the development of the men’s and women’s swimming budget; ensures adherence to and monitoring of said budget.
Works with appropriate departmental/institutional staff to ensure met deadlines for team travel and appropriate and safe travel arrangements.
Supervises/manages personnel assigned to the men’s and women’s swimming program, including recruitment and selection; assigning/mentoring/monitoring work assignments; appropriate and prompt staff discipline and corrective measures; resolving personnel issues promptly and positively; and all aspects of performance management.
Expands and enhances the camps programs, including summer camps, clinics or special-target-population camps.
In collaboration with Athletic Director, develops, implements and maintains a general fundraising program as well as to generate additional funds for program support, ensuring that the plan/programs/events complement and do not compete with already established programs and events in the Athletics Department and at the University.
Develops and cultivates sponsorship relationships.
Monitors the academic progress of all student athletes in the men’s and women’s swimming program.
Assists in the organization, oversight and implementation of all men’s and women’s swimming off-season, pre-season and in-season strength training, conditioning and agility programs, in coordination with the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.
Communicates orally/in writing with media and outside agencies per established guidelines and in coordination with the
FSU
Director of Athletic Communication.
Conducts coaches’ preparation/planning meetings and trains/mentors assigned coaching staff in proper and effective coaching techniques; attends all other meetings as appropriate/as assigned.
Establishes/ensures communication of and compliance with rules regarding student-athlete conduct, appearance and behavior.
Supports other sports programs/clubs, intramural programs and other functions of the University and Athletic Department, in particular regarding the scheduling of facilities and use of available resources.
Works collaboratively with all support offices across the institution who support the swimming program.
Performs related duties as needed, as appropriate and as assigned.
