Ferrum College, an NCAA Division II institution located in Ferrum, Virginia, is looking for a motivated, energetic and passionate individual to be our next Head Men’s Basketball Coach. This is a full-time, 12-month position that reports directly to the Director of Athletics.

Ferrum College transitioned to NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas fall 2025.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The head men’s basketball coach will evaluate, recruit, coach and mentor qualified student-athletes that will compete at a high level in the classroom and on the court. The successful candidate will oversee the organization of all team practices, games, tournaments and budgets. This individual will put together a comprehensive recruitment plan for the men’s basketball staff and will ensure a culture of compliance within all NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas, and Ferrum College rules and regulations, and ensure all coaches and student-athletes comply with same. Finally, the successful candidate will serve in administrative capacity as needed and directed by the Director of Athletics.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Evaluate, recruit, coach and mentor qualified student-athletes and prepare the team for a full intercollegiate varsity men’s basketball experience. 2. Oversee all aspects of men’s basketball program operations, including, but not limited to, the development and management of all team practices, contests, recruitment, academic monitoring, budgets and the supervision of all full-time, part-time, volunteer and student assistant coaching staff. 3. Develop and execute a comprehensive recruitment plan for the entire men’s basketball staff, ensuring a robust and competitive roster from the local, regional and national landscape. 4. Ensure a culture of compliance around all NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas and Ferrum College rules and regulations and ensure all coaching staff members and student-athletes do the same. 5. Travel locally, regionally and nationally for all regular-season and post-season events, conference and/or national meetings and fundraising, alumni and community events. 6. Develop yearly, non-conference, game schedules to ensure high-level competition in preparation for conference and NCAA competitions. 7. Oversee student-athlete academic progress, be available for consultation/support for student-athletes and direct student-athletes to the appropriate academic professionals to ensure academic success. 8. Select and purchase all equipment necessary to ensure a competitive men’s basketball program. 9. Work with the Director of Athletics on the upkeep of Swartz Gymnasium and all other relevant facilities utilized by the men’s basketball team. 10. Work closely with the Sports Information Director to develop a media plan and be available for interviews and speaking engagements to internal and external constituents. 11. Serve in administrative capacity as needed and directed by the Director of Athletics.
