The Head Men’s Golf Coach is responsible for all administrative and organizational aspects of the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Program within the mission of the University and its philosophy of Intercollegiate Athletics. The coach will hold academic requirements and pursuits as a matter of highest priority and will actively encourage student-athletes to succeed academically and acquire a degree. The coach is also responsible for budget development and administration, recruitment of student-athletes, adherence to NCAA, West Coast Conference and University regulations regarding recruiting, admission standards and eligibility, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, the scheduling of athletic practices and contests, and the establishment of effective media relations. This position requires significant fundraising activity. The position will also assist in sports promotional activities and serve as a representative of the University to the outside community when appropriate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As Head Men’s Golf Coach, direct involvement with all coaching, administrative and organizational aspects of an NCAA Division I program under the supervision of the Senior Associate Director of Athletics:
Supervision of all student athletes in a coordinated and planned program of practices and competition, with a concern for the players’ health and welfare, physical and psychological preparation.
Prepare and implement individual practice sessions when appropriate and requested, and in keeping within the NCAA regulations.
Develop a highly competitive schedule to include the appropriate tournaments throughout the traditional and non-traditional seasons to support the possibility of an NCAA yearly National Ranking
In cooperation with the Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and Associate Director of Athletics for Academics and Student Services, uphold all University academic policies and assist, when appropriate, in counseling student-athletes relative to academic success, progress and eligibility.
Maintain APR scores above NCAA requirements.
Enforce University and athletic department policies and regulations regarding the use/abuse of alcohol and drugs by team members.
Foster and maintain positive student body and faculty relations with student athletes.
Recommend to the Executive Director of Athletics, an annual budget for the program and operate within the approved budget.
Fundraise the yearly designated amount to assist with financing the operation of the program.
Work with the Manager of Athletic Equipment Services on the purchase of uniforms, supplies and equipment as approved by the Senior Associate Director of Athletics.
Responsibility for all team and individual travel, meals and lodging with prompt resolution of accounts.
Prepare and organize a representative schedule for approval by the sport supervisor and the Senior Associate Director of Athletics. Consideration should be given to the academic life of student-athletes, i.e. missed class time, examination periods and other factors that would adversely affect their academic success.
Participation in public relations, promotion and fundraising activities as conducted by the University and/or department.
Maintain professional growth through attending meetings, coaches clinics, workshops, etc.
Assist in Conference, regional and national events hosted by the University.
Assist in the organization of any team and/or department awards presentations to student-athletes.
Establish and maintain positive relations with the media
Select a volunteer coach, and assign duties and responsibilities. The volunteer must be approved by the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, sport supervisor and Assistant AD for Compliance.
Responsibility for recruiting academically and athletically qualified student-athletes for admission to the University with adherence to admissions and athletic department policies and procedures in this regard:
Knowledge of and adherence to all University, NCAA and Conference Rules and Regulations, Policies and Procedures with special attention to recruiting, eligibility, admissions, and financial aid.
Plan and supervise all on campus official visits. Be available for unofficial visits with students and parents.
Prepare and present recruitment strategy to sport supervisor for discussion and approval.
Annually make recommendations to the Executive Director of Athletics and Director of Financial Aid for the awarding of Athletic Grants-in-Aid for both new and continuing students-athletes.
Fundraising:
Annual fundraising component for the yearly designated amount. This would include the organization and implementation of an annual USD Men’s Golf Outing fundraising event.
Solicitation of corporate golf sponsors for products necessary for the program. i.e. golf balls and clubs. No solicitation may be done to companies who would be in direct conflict with the Nike contract, and no product may be worn or used that would conflict.
Other fundraising activities which are approved by the sport supervisor, AD and the Senior Associate AD for Development.
Special Conditions of Employment:
Must be able to travel for extended periods of time for athletic and recruiting events.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
Successful completion of required background checks.

Degree Verification Requirement
: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required.
At least 3 years of related experience, which could include a combination of college coaching, high school or USGA or PGA approved club teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous fundraising experience preferred.
Performance Expectations - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to recruit and develop student athletes academically and athletically.
Possess good communication and organizational skills.
Understanding of NCAA, West Coast Conference and USD rules and regulations and academic expectation of the University.
Ability to raise funds to assist with financing the operation of the golf program.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
CPR/AED/First Aid certification required. Must have this certificate within 6 weeks of employment.
Required to be certified to recruit off-campus by USD Athletics Compliance Staff via NCAA rules education training within 6 weeks of hire date, and then each year before August 1st.
California driver’s license required within 6 weeks of employment.
Tools and Equipment Used:
Personal computer, Microsoft Office, Teamworks, internet/email software.
Be capable of operating video equipment.
Must be capable of teaching and refining golf strokes/swings at a highly proficient level.
$10,000 - $11,666.66 per month; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
