Job Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to organize, recruit, develop and instruct soccer student athletes in concert with the academic mission of the university, Landmark Conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Additionally, the role includes a secondary administrative duty, which will be reassessed annually. This position is classified as exempt under FLSA regulations.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Head Coach of the Men’s Soccer program.
  • Provide oversight of all operations and programming including coaching, training, and skill development of all student-athletes during practices and competition.
  • Develop and implement organized practices and game strategies.
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence and adaptability to adverse situations; a strong commitment and the ability to enhance student-athlete experiences through motivation and leadership development.
  • Evaluate and recruit qualified student-athletes.
  • Facilitate the operating budget and support fundraising opportunities for the Men’s soccer program, including One SU and Orange and Maroon giving days and promotional activities, speaking engagements, and alumni events as requested or approved for the sports program.
  • Develop a schedule that includes competitive regional contests and oversees team travel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Partner with athletic administration and campus stakeholders to foster the academic progress and success of student-athletes including promoting and maintaining an environment that encourages academic achievement as measured by academic eligibility, retention, and graduation.
  • Promote the physical and mental well-being of all program participants. Promote and foster a positive team environment, appropriate behavior, and sportsmanship by team members, assistant coaches, and staff.
  • Develop positive rapport with athletics staff, as well as SU community
  • Exercise functional and administrative hiring, supervision and development for any assigned assistant coaches and other support staff, to include their compliance with NCAA, Conference and university rules and policies.
