Job Description:
Campus Title: Head Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Coach/Aquatics Director/Certified Pool Operator (CPO) State Job Title: Staff Assistant Department: Athletics Job Code: HA5600 FLSA Status: Exempt Funding: 7115-0100 Bargaining Unit: APA Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Timeframe: 43 Weeks Shift: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, with night and weekend availability Regular Days Off: Saturday and Sunday Supervision Received: Dual reporting structure:
Head Coaching duties report to the Director of Athletics
Aquatics Director / CPO duties report to the Assistant Director of Athletics and Recreation
Supervision Exercised: Will supervise assistant coaches for the swimming and diving teams, lifeguards and student employees assigned to the area. Salary: $47,803 to $50,803 Annually (salary commensurate with education and experience)
CORE DUTIES - Aquatics Director / CPO: 50%
Will work in conjunction with the Facilities Department CPO, and the maintainer staff on daily pool maintenance and deck/pool cleaning procedures.
Will hire, train, schedule, and evaluate all aquatics related personnel (lifeguards, pool managers, water safety instructors, etc.).
Will administer all college and community-based swimming programs.
Will develop additional aquatics programming for Athletics departmental fundraising that can help benefit the aquatics program.
Will coordinate scheduled use of the Ely Pool facility with the Departments of Athletics, Sports Medicine and Human Performance Department, Conference and Events Services, and Assistant Director of Athletics and Recreation.
Will maintain a comprehensive EAP - Emergency Action Plan for the Ely Pool.
Will manage the Ely pool AED and other safety equipment and follow an annual ordering process for all equipment and supplies.
Will plan and implement assessment efforts that inform data driven decision making for the programs, services, and activities as it relates to position core duties.
Will develop and implement intentional programs, services and activities that will meet the unique needs of all student populations as it relates to position core duties.
CORE DUTIES - Coaching: 50%
Will oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the swimming and diving teams, including teaching skills and strategies for the sport during practice and games in the traditional and non-traditional seasons.
Will develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan to develop highly competitive teams.
Will support departmental student-athlete support and leadership programs including those centered on academic support, retention, leadership development, community service, and SAAC involvement.
Will coordinate team logistics with Athletic Department staff and other support personnel such as managers, scorekeepers, etc.
Will hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and meet employees.
Will adhere to and support all rules, conditions and regulations as set forth by Westfield State University, Conference affiliations and the National Collegiate Athletic Association pertaining to all aspects of the team's management.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree
One to three years' experience in collegiate coaching
Current Certified Pool Operator - CPO or APO certification required (Recognized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts)
Current Certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, and Lifeguard.
Successful completion of the NCAA Division III Rules Test for Coaches by the 2nd full week of the playing and practice season
Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences (i.e., students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration and community)
Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as playing and practice schedule dictates
Ability to lift 25 lbs. with accommodations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters' degree sports administration or related field preferred
Supervisory and/or managerial experience
Experience with swimming manager software
Experience with recruiting database management
Valid U.S. driver's license

Salary:
Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies. State job specifications may be found on the Department of Higher Education's webpage.
