JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for directing and coaching the university's softball program.

MAJOR DUTIES

• Supervises and manages all aspects of coaching the softball team.
• Abides, complies and enforces all applicable NAIA, GCAC, and DU policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Attends practices and competitions.
• Responsible for budget control, scheduling, and travel arrangements.
• Organizes and administers the recruitment of students and the practices of the student-athletes in a manner to produce the highest level of success.
• Coordinates and administers the academic progress and character building of the athletes to assist them in balancing athletics and academics in order to insure retention and academic success.
• Assists Athletic Department with fundraising endeavors.

• Assists Athletic Department with fundraising endeavors.
• Performs Summer duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
• Maintains a positive relationship with the student-athletes, faculty, staff, community, media, and other constituents.
• Participates in college, department, administrative meetings, and committees, as required/requested.
• Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

• Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing intercollegiate sports.
• Knowledge of college-level athletic program management principles.
• Knowledge of softball rules and procedures.
• Knowledge of budget management principles.
• Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
• Knowledge of NCAA and GCAC rules.
• Skill in the coaching and training of student-athletes.
• Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Director of Athletics assign work in terms of program goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of program activities.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include NAIA and GCAC rules and regulations, Dillard University policies and procedures, scholarship guidelines, and DU policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgement, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

• The work consists of varies program management and coaching duties. The variety of tasks to be overseen contributes to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to direct and coach the university's women's softball program. Success in this position results in the successful provision of programming to college students.

CONTACTS

• Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, students, and coaches from other universities, referees, student-athletes, business professionals, professional scouts, alumni, and members of the general public.
• Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to motivate or influence persons.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

• The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, distinguishes between shades of color, utilizes the sense of smell.
• The work is typically performed in an office and in athletics facilities.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILTY

This position has direct supervision over assigned volunteer staff and student workers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Baccalaureate degree required.
• Two years of related experience required.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Louisiana for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a First Aid, CPR/AED certification.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain NAIA certification within four weeks of hire date.
