About the Position:
The Athletics department at Cal State Fullerton strives to provide an intercollegiate athletics program that is an integral part of the total educational experience at California State University, Fullerton and fits within the overall mission of the University. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Head Softball Coach (Administrator III).
The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
The softball program at California State University, Fullerton is a highly competitive, minority serving institution which competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Big West Conference. The Head Softball Coach administer a highly competitive softball program that competes in the NCAA Division I Big West Conference. They are responsible for recruiting Division I quality student-athletes. The Head Coach understands and abides by University, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Big West Conference (BWC) rules, regulations, policies and procedures. They oversee team practices and the scouting of opponents.
In addition, they will work in conjunctions with the athletics department administration regarding budget and scheduling opponents. Taking an active role in marketing softball on campus and within the community through public appearances and promotional efforts. Further, they assist in fundraising and revenue development for the whole department. The Head Coach supervises and evaluates assistant coaches; makes recommendations concerning the appointment, assignment, evaluation, retention, and dismissal of the coaching staff. They carry out coaching and teaching duties as assigned by the Athletics Director or designee. Taking an active role in the academic progress of the student-athletes assigned to softball, with particular attention to satisfactory progress toward their degrees and graduation rates; oversee and monitor the academic progress of student-athletes while ensuring the academic progress rate requirements are met. The Head Coach supports the University overall, ensuring they are available as necessary for University and department activities, are available to participate in appropriate committee work as well as professional service activities. Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Demonstrated successful coaching experience in a highly competitive intercollegiate and/or professional softball level in a diverse setting. Proven ability to promote inclusivity when recruiting highly skilled student-athletics and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to recruit Division I level student-athletes and demonstrated commitment to their academic success. Experience in managing an athletic budget and formulating an intercollegiate softball schedule. Ability to interact successfully with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, and to work harmoniously with students and colleagues. Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Master’s degree from an accredited university. NCAA Division I softball coaching experience. Knowledge of various scouting and video editing software systems. Five years of coaching a highly competitive intercollegiate softball program, preferably at the Division I level.
A Valid California Driver’s License.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
