Columbus State University (CSU), a member of NCAA Division II and the Peach Belt Conference (PBC), is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Head Strength & Conditioning Coach. This position will develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for the Department of Athletics and its student-athletes in accordance with NCAA and CSU regulations. The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive strength and conditioning programs that support the health, safety, and performance of CSU student-athletes.
Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine & Sports Performance, this individual will assist in the education and teaching of CSU's strength and conditioning programs for 14 varsity sports. Weekend, holiday, early morning and/or late evening hours are required. This position provides leadership for the strength and conditioning department, collaborates closely with sport coaches and athletic training staff, and ensures compliance with NCAA, PBC, and institutional policies. The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach serves as an ambassador for CSU and CSU Athletics while fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performance training environment.
Significant Duties and Responsibilities include: Promote a positive and supportive training environment for CSU student-athletes.; Serve as an educator for student-athletes, responsible for the development and implementation of instructional curriculum focused on physical development, injury prevention, and athletic performance.; Maintain professional certifications and remain current with emerging trends, techniques, and equipment in strength and conditioning.; Plan, implement, and evaluate sport-specific strength and conditioning programs.; Maintain current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications. Can be obtained through CSU.; Ensure compliance with all NCAA, PBC, and institutional rules and regulations.; Develop, implement, and enforce weight room policies and codes of conduct.; Document and report weight room injuries or incidents to Sports Medicine staff and appropriate administrators.; Collaborate with sport coaches to define and agree upon clear, measurable indicators of success. Act as an extension of each team's head coaches while upholding team standards and expectations. Communicate regularly with sport coaches regarding athlete workload, performance, and conduct.; Schedule team strength and conditioning activities during in-season, off-season, and summer training periods.; Collaborate closely with Sports Medicine staff on injury prevention, rehabilitation considerations, and return-to-play programming.; Educate, monitor, assess and demonstrate strength, speed, agility, flexibility, and mobility training methods and performance. Instruct student-athletes in proper strength training techniques, placing primary emphasis on safety and correct form. Recognize that incoming student-athletes may possess limited prior lifting experience and deliver tailored instruction and close supervision to support their development and minimize injury risk.; Instruct and communicate technique refinement through various teaching methods, and demand a higher level of performance through positive feedback and cues.; Conduct testing to assess student-athlete performance and improvement.; Maintain a complete data file of individual student-athletes training performance.; Maintain ownership of the weight room and accept responsibility for its daily operation and organization. Ensure proper use, inspection, and maintenance of all strength and conditioning equipment.; Plan equipment purchases and facility needs in consultation with the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine & Sports Performance.; Ensure all workouts are prepared prior to training sessions and documented.; Schedule/Hours will vary based on team schedules and departmental needs; arrive early and prepared for all training sessions.; Engage in professional development activities to stay current with best practices, new research and changing guidelines.; In collaboration with the Sports Medicine staff, provide foundational nutritional guidance related to athletic performance and development. Recommend evidence-based nutrition resources, including articles and books. Promote respectful, inclusive, and supportive language regarding food, body composition, and eating behaviors.; Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine & Sports Performance or the Director of Athletics.
Required Qualifications include: Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field.; Prior Strength & Conditioning coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level.; NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
Preferred Qualifications include: Master's degree in a relevant discipline.; Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) certification.; Two years of strength & conditioning coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level.
The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $47,000 - $51,198 and includes full benefits.
