The Head Coach is responsible for organizing and directing all aspects of a successful and competitive men’s and women’s tennis program in a manner which is in accordance with the philosophy, rules and regulations of the university, the NAIA, and the GPAC. It is the coach’s responsibility to know and understand all rules and regulations of the university, and the rules and regulations of the NAIA and the GPAC.
Duties and Responsibilities
Direct a successful program and exercise supervision of the program in a manner which is in accordance with the philosophy, rules, and regulations of the university, the NAIA, and the GPAC
Recruit high quality, competent student-athletes, maintaining communication with the Admissions office. This will include knowing and informing potential student-athletes of eligibility, academic and university standards
Make a recommendation to the Athletic Director on the amount of athletic award to be issued to each athlete. Inform, in writing, any suspension or reduction on grant to the Athletic Director
Assist student-athletes with their integration into the academic, spiritual, and social dimensions of Mount Marty University
Represent the university at appropriate community and sporting events, assisting in fundraising and engagement opportunities
Ensure the appropriate time and resources are being given to the Junior Varsity program.
Complete the NAIA Coaching with Character exercise, and be sure all assistants have also completed the program
Work with the Athletic Director in preparing and maintaining the budget for the men’s and women’s tennis programs. This will include fiscal responsibility with such things as team travel and equipment/supplies. The proper budget processes must be followed for requesting funds and submitting receipts. This will also include treating sensitive material as highly confidential.
Prepare a season schedule and submit it to the Athletics Director for approval
Work with the FAR to confirm the eligibility of athletes before allowing them to participate in scrimmages, junior varsity or varsity contests
Submit a list of eligible team members to the Athletic Director and FAR at least 2 weeks in advance of the first contest
Have a comprehensive academic monitoring program to ensure student-athlete success
Develop and supervise an off-season weightlifting, conditioning and skills improvement program.
Immediately inform the Athletic Director of problems related to athletes
Require all athletes to pass a physical examination before participating in practice or contests
Work with trainer in arranging doctor appointments for athletes and maintain a record on the status of injuries. Assist Trainer in processing insurance claims
Supervise the work of your manager during the season and provide the Athletics Director with a complete inventory at the conclusion of the season
Work with SID to supervise the statistician and assist the Home Event Coordinator in organizing help for home games
Assume responsibility of having all team members (athletes, coaches, managers) read, understand, and sign the appropriate MMU Code of Conduct and/or NAIA Champions of Character pledge.
Build and maintain rapport with students, faculty and staff
Enhance professional growth by attending clinics, workshops and also working at camps and clinics which can promote the visibility of Mount Marty University
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required
Experience in coaching student athletes
Strong management and budgeting skills
