We have an opportunity for a top candidate to join Maryville College’s staff as the new Head Volleyball Coach.
As Head Volleyball Coach, you would have full responsibility for the general supervision, recruitment, training, and administration of the varsity volleyball program. You would supervise the game management of home athletic contests. You would work closely with the head coach, the security staff, and the Athletic Director in assuring a safe and fan-friendly environment of each home athletic contest assigned.
Your primary job duties and responsibilities would include:
Establishes good rapport and generates respect among students, campus colleagues, and the local community.
Finalizes the schedule for team games; submits schedule to the Athletic Director.
Completes yearly effective and efficient recruiting; coordinates recruiting efforts through the Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, and Athletic departments.
Coordinates the issuance and retrieval of all the program’s equipment.
Communicates with the Head Athletic Trainer regarding player injuries, rehabilitative processes, and conditioning practices.
Monitors the academic progress of each student athlete in their program in conjunction with the Senior Associate Athletic Director.
Coordinates all publications that revolve around their program with the Athletic Communications office.
Assists with all reports relative to their sport including game and seasonal statistics, season end reports, new records, award recommendations, and other reports deemed necessary.
Assures accurate bookkeeping on all program-related accounts; must file financial reports promptly and accurately.
Supervises and secures department facilities; promptly reports items requiring maintenance or security attention to the Athletic Director.
Attends all athletic staff meetings as scheduled and works effectively with other coaches.
May participate in college-sponsored or off-campus sports camps and coaching clinics with the approval of the Athletic Director.
Commit to the athletic department values of academics, health and wellness, mental health, sport performance and game day experience to give all student-athletes the opportunity to have a successful student-athletes experience.
Attends all the program’s athletic contests.
Represents Maryville College in conference meetings for volleyball.
Directly supervises Full-Time Assistant Volleyball Coach, Part-Time Coaches, any Volunteer Coaches, and Work Study Students. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Game Management:
Meet with head coach to review management plan prior to the home athletic contest of each season.
Hire, supervise, and schedule all athletic contests personnel (announcer, scoreboard operators, student workers, statistics crew, etc.) during each athletic sport’s season. Coordinating these hires with the work-study supervisor and Director of Sports Information.
Coordinate necessary facility preparation for each event.
Meet visiting teams and officials (referees) and take care of their needs before, during, and after the contest.
Plan and supervise the security of dressing rooms for the home and visiting teams and the officials.
Maintain supervision of home and away spectators ensuring acceptable sportsmanship and conduct. Coordinate any type of disciplinary action or fan removal with the MC security office.
Coordinate the closing of the facility after the event and make necessary changes to prepare the facility for the next activity.
Minimum qualifications for this job required are:
Education required to ensure success in this position:
Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university;
Master’s preferred and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience required to ensure success in this position:
Three to five years of coaching experience at the college level is preferred.
Special skills, knowledge and abilities:
Ability to work well with others.
Regular attendance is required.
Has the knowledge and utilizes effective administration practices of college athletic department policy and procedures and a commitment to NCAA and The Collegiate Conference of the South compliance.
License, certification, or registration necessary:
Must be current in CPR and First Aid, must pass the NCAA Recruiting Rules test annually.
A valid Tennessee Driver’s license is required.
