Gardner Webb University seeks applications for a Head Coach of Women’s Volleyball. It is a full-time, 12-month position and includes full benefits. The Head Coach is an integral member of the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics staff team and reports directly to the Director of Athletics or designee in the AD’s absence.
The Head Coach for Gardner Webb University Women’s Volleyball program provides direction and administrative oversight for the program related to successful athletic performance, recruitment, and retention of quality student athletes. Providing the necessary leadership for a positive competitive environment for student athletes in a Christian environment. Responsibilities include all activities associated with the management of a successful NCAA Division I program within the College. In addition, the successful coach can expect to take part in Gardner Webb University fundraising efforts and service outreach within the local community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for all aspects of the program, creation of written team rules, and ensuring the program remains consistent with our University Christian mission and values.
2. Facilitate a positive environment for players and coaches.
3. Responsible for the hiring and evaluation of assistant coaches and graduate assistants that will provide effective and positive leadership for the program
4. Prepares and organizes daily practice sessions, game preparation for competition and off-season training.
Recommends and prepares all schedules for home tournaments and non-conference games to the Director of Athletics.
Organizes the scouting of future opponents including video tape analysis. Organizes and directs the coaching staff to carry out the goals and objectives of the women’s volleyball program.
Responsibly expends allocated budget and ensures that the budget balances each fiscal year.
Train and develop student athletes, as well as assistant coaches, in the sport's skills, strategies, techniques, and conditioning.
Oversee budgets, scheduling, inventory, travel logistics, strength and conditioning, fundraising, summer camps, and community service and engagement projects.
Manage the planning of practice sessions and developing plans for competition.
Recruit qualified Prospective Student Athletes (PSA), e.g., through evaluation and identification of prospective student athletes; by evaluation of skill and academic performance; contact and communication with PSA's and families; and cultivation of relationships with high school and club coaches.

Monitor the academic progress and success of team members and helping with academic related forms and processes.
Abide by all NCAA, Big South Conference and Gardner Webb University rules, policies and procedures with an understanding that failure to do so may lead to sanctions up to and including termination.
Promptly report any suspected violation (including possible violations committed personally or by any other member of the athletics department staff, compliance related offices and staff, student athletes, or boosters) of NCAA, Big South and/or Gardner Webb Athletics rules to the Director of Compliance, Senior Women’s Administrator, or Director of Athletics.
Actively participate in the education and enforcement of NCAA Rules within the sport community.
Implements appropriate risk management strategies at all times; engages in regular consultation with athletic training and other department sports medicine personnel to maximize the safety and wellness of student-athletes; and demonstrates concern for the overall welfare of students at all times.
Represent the program and Gardner Webb University with sportsmanship, integrity, and professionalism.
Be approachable and have social skills that allow you to communicate in a courteous manner.
Must be able to lift objects up to fifty pounds; be in physical shape that allows for frequent, bending, stooping, and walking.
Other duties as assigned by the VP and Director of Athletics.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. Master's degree from accredited institution preferred. Bachelor's degree required.
2. Minimum 5 years of successful collegiate coaching experience. Collegiate head coaching experience is preferred.
3. Demonstrated ability to recruit academically successful student-athletes.
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
5. Valid driver's license.
6. Strong knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations preferred.
