This position directs, provides leadership, and oversees all coaching duties for the women’s basketball Program. Directs and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and training for athletic competition and oversees the planning of the program activities while developing high expectations for student athletes to achieve in the classroom and athletic environment.
• Recruit quality student athletes to participate in the women’s basketball program for New Mexico Highlands University which is affiliated with the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference;
• Continually assess athletic ability and improvement and provide high levels of guidance to assist improvement of student athletes in these areas;
• Demonstrated success working with limited resources;
• Participate and generate in fundraising activities for the women’s basketball program and athletic department;
• Develop high expectations for student athletes to achieve in the classroom and in the athletic environment;
• Develop performance standards for athletes and coaches to achieve high levels of competition;
• Assess athletic improvement regarding student athletes and provide high levels of guidance to assist improvement of athletes in these areas;
• Utilize researched based methods of instruction to ensure that athletes receive high quality coaching;
• Organize, plan and implement practice and game plans to ensure that
NMHU
athletes have a chance to compete at the highest levels;
• Provide mentorship to student athletes and provide a social and academic network for the athletes to use if they need additional assistance in these areas;
• Provide assistance to the athletic department if needed including but not limited to supervising other athletic events, working alongside
NMHU
athletes in community service projects, and assisting the Athletic Director with any additional reasonable requests;
• Provide proper supervision to athletes on road trips;
• Schedule non-conference women’s basketball games;
• Promote the women’s basketball program in a positive manner;
• Supervise the women’s basketball program in accordance to the
RMAC
and
NCAA
rules and regulations;
• Perform related duties as assigned;
• Maintain regular attendance.
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in any field
• Experience: Five (5) years coaching experience
Master’s Degree in any field and Collegiate coaching experience
Demonstrated successful coaching experience at the collegiate level
• Complete
NCAA
Coaches Curriculum within first two (2) weeks of employment;
• Must possess and maintain a valid NM driver’s license. Selection of an out of state candidate will require possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s license within sixty (60) days of employment.
• Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and odd hours.
• Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports and playing rules;
• Ability to exhibit strong leadership and management skills;
• Knowledge and skill in budget preparation and fiscal management;
• Knowledge and willingness to learn, then exhibit strong adherence to
NCAA

, and
NMHU
rules, regulations and policies;
• Knowledge of
NCAA
student athlete academic eligibility requirements;
• Ability to demonstrate competitive coaching skills in area of sporting specialty;
• Ability to exhibit strong interpersonal and communications skills;
• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
• Knowledge of
NCAA
recruiting rules;
• Knowledge of travel/lodging planning and scheduling;
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment;
• Skill in Organizing and coordinating;
• Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques;
