The Head Women’s Basketball Coach will be responsible for the management, oversight, and development of the women’s basketball program.  Responsibilities include the recruitment and retention of student athletes, budget management, scheduling, fundraising, reports, and the supervision and evaluation of student athletes and assistant coaching staff.  The Head Women’s Basketball Coach will comply with all Baker University, Heart Conference, and NAIA procedures and policies.  The position will perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

• Recruitment and Retention  

  • Identify and evaluate potential prospects; contact prospects via phone, letters, and electronic mail; coordinate campus visits in concert with Admissions Office. 

• Budget Management  

  • Manage operational, recruiting, restricted, and financial aid budget; work in concert with Associate Athletic Director and Director of Financial Aid regarding policies and procedures. 

• Scheduling

  • Coordinate schedule for team practices and contests; execute training sessions for varsity level competition, comply with all Baker, Heart Conference, and NAIA policies regarding in-season and out-of-season workouts. 

• Fundraising  

  • Organize and execute program fundraisers to supplement budgets; actively engage program Alumni; work in concert with Office of Advancement. 

• Supervision and Evaluation  

  • Observe, supervise, mentor, and evaluate student-athletes and assistant coaching staff.  Recognize assistant coaching staff as extension of program and ensure compliance of assistant coaching staff with Baker, Heart Conference, and NAIA policies and procedures.   

• Sports Information  

  • Work in concert with Assistant Director of Athletics-Communications on roster updates, recaps of games and scheduling of contests. 

Job Performance:                                                                                                                                        

• Recruitment and Retention  

  • Recruit student-athletes who meet the entrance criteria of Baker University.  Retain a varsity roster size equivalent with the expectations of the Director of Athletics.  Assist student-athletes with academic development in pursuit of a college degree.   

• Budget Management  

  • Accurately manage multiple budgets for the women’s basketball program including operational, recruiting, restricted, and financial aid.  Display fiscal responsibility in all transactions, including but not limited to requisitions, expense reports, and team travel.  

• Scheduling  

  • Communicate with conference programs, non-conference programs, and the Director of Athletics to create a competitive varsity schedule; execute training sessions to prepare team for success in competition; finalize and distribute schedule to all appropriate parties in a timely fashion.   

• Fundraising  

  • Display continued efforts to engage Alumni of the program.  Utilize funds raised to supplement budgets and support the program.   

• Supervision and Evaluation  

  • Behavior by student-athletes and assistant coaching staff in a manner which represents the values and mission of Baker University.  Compliance with all Baker, Heart Conference, and NAIA policies and procedures.

Qualifications:  

• Bachelor’s Degree 
• Women’s Basketball Collegiate Coaching Experience preferred  
• Working knowledge of the NAIA 
• Good interpersonal skills 
• Ability to work independently 
• Ability to supervise staff and students 
• Competent writing and communication skills 
• Proficient with computers 
• Ability to meet deadlines 
• Confidentiality
