Shorter University, a NCAA Division II institution, is currently accepting applicants for the position of Head Wrestling Coach. This position will be responsible for sport specific coaching, providingChrist-centered development for student-athletes, evaluating and recruiting prospective student-athletes, and administrative duties. This position will report to the Athletic Director. All activities shall be conducted within the policies and resource framework of the University, the Athletics Department, and the NCAA.

We will begin competing in the Conference Carolinas in the fall of 2024.

Job Summary

Oversee all aspects of the wrestling program which includes but is not limited to scheduling, budgeting, game preparation, planning and execution of practices, conditioning, recruiting, academic monitoring, andother duties as assigned.

Student-Athlete Development

• Create an atmosphere that teaches student-athletes about Jesus Christ.
• Develop student-athletes with counseling, advising, educating, and motivating.
• Monitor, evaluate, and retain student-athletes.
• Perform all game-dayactivities.
• Maintain a disciplined environment ensuring the safety of the student-athlete.

• Collaboratewith strength and conditioning staff to train all wrestling athletes.

Recruiting/Administrative

• Evaluate prospectswhile athigh school visits, competitions, and on campus.
• Recruit eligiblestudent-athletes from high school, junior college, and transfers.
• Abide by the rules and regulations of the NCAA and Conference Carolinas.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a player or coach at the collegiate level, highly successful high school, and/or club coaching experience. Bachelor’s degree required.
• The successful candidate must be a committed Christian who is passionate about Christ-centered higher education.

Job Duties

• Organize and supervise all practices, matches and the off-season conditioning program.
• Develop and implement a recruiting plan.
• Responsible for budget and scheduling.
• Adhere to all Shorter University and NCAA rules and regulations.
• Arrange transportation and lodging for team and staff.
• Implement pre-game devotional program.
• Ensure that the wrestling team represents Shorter University with character, class, and sportsmanship.
• Must understand the role of intercollegiate athletics in an academic environment. Valuing the physical, intellectual, and spiritual development of each student.
