Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Valid/current driver's license as required by the State of Illinois and a CDL class B license or higher, in accordance with the size of the vehicle to be operated by the incumbent.
3. Six (6) months of work experience as a route or commercial delivery driver or closely related experience to the given position. NOTE: All necessary CDL endorsements are based on the vehicle to be operated and when required to operate vehicles capable of transporting 16 or more persons as required by the Illinois Secretary of State.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Department of Transportation regulations.
• A satisfactory driving record that demonstrates a commitment to safety with no more than 2 moving violations and no accidents within the previous three years and no suspensions, disqualifications, or revocations.
• Minimum of two (2) years, verifiable experience operating commercial or large vehicles or verified completion of a qualified, comprehensive driver training program.
• Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent map reading and navigation skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of state laws governing the operation of motor vehicles on state highways.
• Knowledge of traffic regulations enforced in the community in which the campus is located.
• Skill operating motor vehicles, including auxiliary equipment as needed.

About Civil Service Examination/Testing: The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of application materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, your application will move forward for examination/testing in which you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. This score will be emailed to the email address noted on your application. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled. Exam scores will be delivered from the civil service system apps@sucss.illinois.gov.
