JOB TITLE: Graduate Student Assistant Hockey Coach
DEPARTMENT: Athletic Department
REPORTS TO: Head Hockey Coach
PURPOSE OF POSITION :
The purpose of this position is to assist the head hockey coach in providing leadership for the Hockey Team at Dordt. This individual will support the mission of the university and bring knowledge and passion for the game of hockey to the hockey program. Above all, this person will help guide young people spiritually, academically and socially during their time as students on our campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assisting with administrative and organizational duties for the team.
Assisting with the scripting and preparation of all practices.
Assisting with the recruiting process of student athletes including telephone and email communication, as well as off-campus school and home visits when necessary.
Helping to arrange the game schedule, practice schedules, team travel arrangements, and equipment and facility maintenance.
Assisting with the development of activities to encourage character development and spiritual growth of the players.
Working with the team manager, team captains, and interns to assist the coach with practices, travel arrangements, leading meetings, and organizing fundraising opportunities.
Other duties as assigned by the head coach.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
A clear understanding and commitment to the Reformed perspective and mission of Dordt University and ability to clearly articulate and communicate the mission effectively.
Ability to express an active Christian commitment, which shall include identification with a local organized church that holds to beliefs that are consistent with the mission of the university.

A bachelor’s degree is preferred, along with acceptance into either the Master of Education or Master of Public Administration programs at Dordt.
Must be knowledgeable in and have the ability to coach the sport of Hockey.
Strong organizational and coordination skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coaches, administration, media and public.
Computer skills including word processing, email and statistical programs.
Willingness to work evenings and Saturdays.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work with student-workers in producing a professional product.
Ability to build and develop relationships with a variety of contacts (i.e.: coaches, public, parents, constituents and external media).
