Job Description

The Hunt Seat Instructor will train and/or re-train University-owned horses used in the Equestrian Program as well as teaching English (Hunt Seat) riding classes. They will assist in Coaching and Instructing the Varsity Hunt Seat team which will.include; selecting team members, scheduling and running team practices, assistance with managing the Hunt Seat Intramural team, making entries for horse shows, arranging for transportation and lodging for team members and attending all regular and post-season shows.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assisting in the daily care of horses, handling horses for vet and/or farrier, and administering first aid and medications. In addition, will assist the Program Director in overseeing University-owned tack and supplies and will assist the Program Director in the care of and ordering of such supplies.
  • The Incumbent will work with the Program Director to continue to develop the Equestrian Program.
  • Cooperate with Program Director and the Hunt Seat Head Coach to operate a program at a high standard of health and safety for animals and people.
  • Communicate clearly and directly with student workers concerning expectations and accountability.
  • Set-up and remove/store equipment as needed for classes, competitions and clinics.
  • Work with members of the University's staff and/or outside contractors on the education, health, and well-being of the horses at the Equestrian Center.
  • Work with the Admissions and Athletic departments in recruiting and meeting with prospective students interested in the Equestrian program.
  • Contribute news and updates about the equestrian program to social media outlets such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
  • Assist Program Director and Head Hunt Seat Coach with annual budget priorities.
  • Develop contacts with regional and nationally known professionals to aid in the improvement of the equestrian program and get new horse donations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment within and around facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SOS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment.
