The Learning Specialist/Academic Coordinator is responsible for the supervision and overseeing of the development and implementation of programs and services designed to meet the needs of student-athletes diagnosed with specific learning disabilities and/or considered to be at risk academically. In addition, the individual will serve as an Academic Coordinator for 4-5 teams which manages the
NCAA
rules and regulations regarding academic eligibility and day to day academic success. Lastly, the position will develop and coordinate an organized effort to enhance and nurture the relationship between the student-athlete and
SASS
and the student-athletes, coaches and faculty.
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
Knowledge of
NCAA
rules and regulations is a prerequisite for this position.
Experience in education/school counseling, or in a Division I athletic institution, or combination of both.
Advanced oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse educations, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
Ability to foster and maintain working relationships with various athletic and University constituencies.
This position requires evening and weekend assignments.
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Demonstrated proficiency administering academic support programming preferred.
Demonstrated experience as a learning specialist for student-athletes strongly preferred.
Experience in teaching learning strategies and developing academic intervention strategies to enhance learning for students with academic challenges preferred.
Working knowledge of computers and student database systems.

- Work with student-athletes on learning and studying strategies designed to enhance academic performance and graduation from the University, serve as a resource to the tutorial and Spartan Academic Support Services staff on relevant learning strategy issues and develop, supervise, and implement tutor and educational mentoring training programs.
- Hiring Study Table Monitors/Tutors.
- Study Table Oversight – scheduling, monitoring and organizing study table.

| Essential Tasks |
- Responsible for the academic coordination of student-athletes as assigned. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating and supervising study table activities, tutoring activities, and approval of course related books; communicating with student-athletes, coaches, and other applicable administrative staff regarding assigned student-athletes’ academic records regarding matriculation, graduation and NCAA eligibility; and monitoring and identifying the means for student-athletes to satisfy NCAA progress toward degree completion requirements, as well as specific program graduation requirements.
- The individual will be able to advise student-athletes in establishing realistic and attainable goals regarding course and major selection, study skills, time management and career choices.
- This position will also be able to maintain confidential student files and records documenting all pertinent student-athlete academic and NCAA eligibility information within the Department, University, NCAA, and FERPA regulations, and utilize the registration and records system regularly to monitor and update internal.

- Will act as a resource for staff and coaches in the areas of learning development, disability identification and referral, providing training in these areas as needed and provide referrals to the Office of Accessibility Resources & Services and appropriate campus resources for assistance as needed.
- On-Campus Academic Recruiting meetings for all sports.
- Running daily grade reports for all athletes to provide to coaches and academic staff.
- Ordering and reconciliation of student athlete books and supplies.
- Graduation deadlines and planning/organizing graduation reception.
