Job Summary

The person chosen for this position will help increase student retention, promote campus safety, and encourage student development and progress to graduation through developmental counseling. Major duties and responsibilities are: provide individual and group counseling for students with emotional or personal problems or conditions. Perform assessments with students referred by faculty, staff, parents or other students, to determine if they are a danger to themselves or others or unable to care for themselves; work with counseling staff and administrators to help manage situations where students are in an emotional or behavioral crisis that puts them or others at risk. On-call, after hours emergency work is required once or twice a semester. This position has primary responsibility for liaising with the Athletics department, in providing programming that assists both Athletics and Counseling in meeting their joint goals, such as drug and alcohol prevention, bystander intervention, suicide prevention, etc. This position works with team coaches, student athlete academic coordinators, and physical trainers to support, counsel and refer student athletes having personal, psychological, academic or performance difficulties.

Responsibilities

Provide individual and group counseling for students with emotional or personal problems or conditions. Serve after hours as the on-call counselor in rotation with other staff
members. Develop and lead structured groups, workshops, presentations and other counseling services as part of the counseling outreach programs

Specialty area focus to be discussed with supervisor. Provide resource information to the university community on counseling and related programs. Perform assessments with student clients and students referred by faculty, staff, parents or other students, to determine if they are a danger to themselves or others. Maintain notes, records and other documentation appropriate to the Counseling Center's record system.

Work cooperatively and professionally with other units of the University to insure safety and promote the developmental, educational growth of the students. Administer and interpret counseling inventories. Serve on University and departmental committees related to mission of department.

Required Qualifications

An earned Master's degree in counseling or related field. Three or more years working as a counselor and/or with special populations required. Must be a licensed professional counselor in a US state, and license eligible in Georgia within one year.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
One or more years' experience working in higher education setting preferred. Preference given to those with experience in higher education and/or experience working with NCAA athletics. Preference given for those certified in performance/sports psychology.

Proposed Salary

$55,000 - $63,000.00 Annually and paid on a monthly basis.
