Expired Date: Feb 10, 2024The Rams Club is the private fundraising organization for the Department of Athletics at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With over 20,000 members, The Rams Club is committed to the mission of providing educational and athletic opportunities for Carolina student-athletes. Funding priorities and initiatives are developed at the direction of the Board of Directors in support of athletic department initiatives and goals. Main areas of funding include scholarship, capital projects, sport specific operating endowments, planned gifts, premium seat sales, as well as other projects approved by the Executive Director and/or the Educational Foundation Board.
The Rams Club is searching for a Major Gift Director who will strategically build relationships with a portfolio of current and prospective major gift donors. This individual will solicit gifts of $100,000+ to further our mission. The Major Gift Director is charged with maximizing revenues from Rams Club fundraising initiatives. This will be accomplished in accordance with all Federal, State, NCAA, Conference and Institutional Regulations.
Aggressively identify, and formally qualify, new major and planned gift prospects by developing and executing long-range and short-range strategies. Implement development strategies with donors and prospects in varying stages of involvement to advance them strategically through the development process. Artfully ask for the right gift, at the right time, in the right way.
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of UNC Athletics/Rams Club priorities and make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific UNC Athletics needs.
Develop and manage a portfolio of 125 major gift prospects focusing on solicitations of $100,000 and above. Emphasis on portfolio and program building is to be expected in the first 2 years. Conduct a minimum of 150 strategic in-person meetings with prospects and donors per year and participate in a minimum of 24 solicitations per year. Within 18 months of start date with The Rams Club, consistently produce $3M+ per year

Support annual fund initiatives, including but not limited to season ticket sales and renewals, and Rams Club membership campaigns.
Serve as the lead fund-raiser and development liaison for assigned athletic team(s).
Attend and participate in Athletics events, Rams Club functions, Athletic Department meetings, University Development and Campaign Strategy meetings, and any other events to represent The Rams Club in a positive manner. Provide outstanding customer service to Rams Club members and prospective members. Always serve as a willing and helpful teammate.
Develop and maintain an astute awareness of social, business, and philanthropic cultures within the respective donor market, and serve as an expert liaison for the Rams Club community. Exhibit strong writing and speaking abilities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Four-year Bachelor’s degree required.
A minimum of three years of fund-raising or sales-related experience needed to apply.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics is preferred.
Master’s degree or equivalent professional work experience.
5 + years of professional fundraising experience in higher education, intercollegiate athletics, or in a related field, including professional sports.
Self-directed, team player who has a strong, results-oriented, work ethic.
Proficient computer skills, including experience with: Word, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Outlook, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat, Asana.
Working knowledge of database systems such as Paciolan, Blackbaud, EverTrue, and other database management systems.
Ability to interact, write, speak and communicate clearly with our donors and constituents, while portraying a professional image and demeanor.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work tasks.
Understanding of the operation of a major research university and passion for promoting its intercollegiate athletic programs.
3 + years of direct experience soliciting major gifts ($100,000+).
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Must be willing to travel extensively. Evening, weekend, and holiday work required.
Must be able to drive
Ability to see, hear, speak, maintain cognitive function at a high level and move about the office, along with ability to lift 20 pounds.
Ability to attend athletic and fundraising events in varying environments including inclement weather.
The Rams Club offers a flexible and hybrid workplace. All team members must have access to and main- tain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools. This position requires evening and weekend work dur- ing UNC athletic and other special events as well as some regional travel. This position is a 100% in- person role that will require relocation to the greater Chapel Hill area.
