With over 650 student-athletes participating in UW's 22 sports programs, the department of Intercollegiate Athletics is committed to providing student-athletes with the ability to compete for national and conference championships while working toward a degree from one of the world's leading public research universities.
The Marketing Coordinator (Information Specialist 1 (NE H NI SEIU 925 Non Supv)) is an entry-level role within the Marketing and Fan Engagement unit, adding value through expertise in promotional marketing, game presentation, and community outreach. This role reports to the Assistant Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement and will leverage marketing and fan engagement strategies to generate revenue, increase attendance, and engage fans in a collegiate environment and in the Seattle community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(30%) - Sport Marketing Oversight: Lead administrative marketing oversight for assigned sports by creating promotional marketing gameday themes, communicating with assigned sport coaches and staff, producing gameday run-of-show documents and public address scripts, ordering promotional giveaways, scheduling anthem singers and any affiliated event entertainment, assigning gameday intern responsibilities and overseeing interns on-site, and collaborating cross-departmentally with other ICA units as required.
(30%) - Game Presentation Stage Management: Assist lead sport marketing contact in game presentation efforts for assigned sports. Responsibilities include communicating with and meeting anthem singers and entertainment performers, executing on-court/field efforts as directed by sport marketing lead, including team entrances and introductions, special recognitions, sponsorship activations, giveaways, mascot and spirit team involvement, halftime entertainment, and concourse tabling activations. Stage management includes close collaboration with event staff such as video, audio, security, and event management.
(20%) - Outreach Marketing: Assist in program planning, communication, and execution for assigned outreach marketing programs, including, Dubs Club kids club, Montlake Memories fan experiences, Dawg Pack campus events, and the UW Athletics Marketing community outreach event calendar.
(20%) - Staffing Oversight: Assist with the oversight of Marketing Interns, including recruitment, hiring, training, office hours oversight, and gameday leadership.
The Marketing Coordinator role is an hourly-paid position for a 12-month term, working an average of 25-30+ office hours per week in addition to events. The hours for this position are flexible and can be balanced with additional part-time employment. Frequent evenings and weekends are required, as dictated by event schedules for assigned sports. A second 12-month term may be offered for this position upon completion of the first term, contingent on performance and expectations.
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Conference, the State of Washington, and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or related field. A minimum of one year of professional experience in marketing and promotions, community outreach, or event operations is ideal.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Highly motivated, creative, self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A strong leader and mentor, especially to students.
Ability and willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
