Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
Organizes, prepares, and conducts safe and strategic individual and team training sessions and competitive strategies. Executes appropriate coaching decisions during practice and competition that ensure the welfare of the student athletes representing their program.
Teach skill progressions appropriate to the level and ability of the student-athletes.
Pole vault specific – ensure safe skills progression that puts the safety of the student-athlete of paramount importance.
Understand the support students who are balancing multiple responsibilities as student and athletes in a rigorous academic environment.
Teach the strategies of the sport generally and event specific as assigned by the head coach of the program.
Assist with the management of facilities, uniforms, and equipment specific to the sport.
Comply with the policies and regulations set forth by the NCAA Division III and Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (MIAC).
Demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship and conduct during practices and contests.
Demonstrate behavior consistent with maintaining a program that has student-athlete welfare, as its central focus.
Maintain the highest priority on the overall educational experience of the student-athletes.
Additional Job Responsibilities:
Engage as fully as possible in the life of the College.
Participate fully in the development of seasonal planning and fully support appropriate decisions made by the head coach.
Describe Supervision Received and Exercised:
The assistant coach will be under the direct supervision of the head coach of the sport. They will engage in a season-end performance evaluation. A written summary of that evaluation will be provided to the director of athletics signed by both the head and assistant coach.
Education/Experience/Skills (supported by job duties):
Required: Bachelor’s degree, Track & field coaching experience, or has competed in track & field at a collegiate level.
Preferred: Three years of experience competing in the pole vault at the collegiate level or three years of coaching experience specifically with the pole vault event. The ability to demonstrate drills specific to the pole vault would be beneficial.
