Statement of Job:

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is seeking a Head Men's Basketball Coach. The head coach will provide instruction, training, coaching, and administer all organizational aspects of a competitive intercollegiate NCAA Division III basketball program via coordinated recruitment with the assistance of a part-time assistant coach. Commitment and ability to lead and run a model program that attracts, yields, and graduates talented student-athletes, develops them holistically as individuals, and provides positive results in a competitive team environment on all fronts are required. Building positive student relationships and meaningful experiences while demonstrating the utmost professionalism and integrity is expected. Additional duties are likely to include, but are not limited to, athletic alumni relations/development, fundraising, special events/projects/initiatives, and out-of-season event management. Being a great team player within the department, who is eager to work collaboratively with all programs/staff/administration who share facilities, resources, and common goals, values, and mission is essential. Sincere interest and flexibility to assist and adjust responsibilities that support evolving department/university needs are required. The University of Maine Farmington is an NCAA Division III institution and a member of the North Atlantic Conference. It sponsors 15 NCAA sports, plus a full complement of USCSA ski and snowboarding. This position is a full-time (40-hour work week) and is on a 10-month work calendar. A typical work year is August 15 through June 15. Additionally, this position requires frequent travel, as well as evenings, weekends, and possible holidays hours.

Essential Duties

• Assures a positive and purposeful experience for the athletes, assures robust involvement, community engagement, and leadership development opportunities; assure these opportunities address diversity, equity, and engagement priorities.
• Performs efficient, appropriate, and effective recruitment activities as well as appropriate use of resources and engagement for performance.
• Conducts high-quality teaching in a humane learning environment.
• Monitors and promotes the academic and personal growth of student-athletes.
• Coordinates the team strength & conditioning/off-season training programs to minimize injury and maximize safe competitive performance.
• Develops and manages program budget and scheduling within parameters.
• Operates program in a manner consistent with NCAA bylaws.
• Develops and manages fundraising.
• Develops and maintains alumni support for the program.
• Works collaboratively with the assistant coach.
• Recruits and supervises student workers (manager/other support).
• Engages in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices.
• Provides additional support in the following areas, including, but not limited to:
  • strength and conditioning support
  • admissions work
  • athletic alumni relations/development
  • out-of-season event management
  • special events/projects/initiatives

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of applicable coaching experience (i.e., basketball, collegiate recruiting, and administrative aspects).
• Valid State of Maine driver’s license (in good standing, based on UMS standards).
• Knowledge of rules and statistics.
• Familiarity with NCAA/NAIA/USCAA standards, rules, and procedures.
• Ability to travel extensively.
• Familiarity with Maine seasonal conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree and head coaching experience/significant assistant coaching experience
• Intercollegiate coaching experience
• Experience playing competitive intercollegiate basketball
• Athletic administrative experience
• Demonstrated knowledge base of effective recruiting experience and the use of recruiting platforms (i.e., Front Rush)
• Experience in forecasting expenses and managing budget (i.e., revenue, expendes, reports/reconciliation)
• Experience (education/certification) in strength and conditioning
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to run effective fundraisers
