JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Penn State Athletics Strategic Communications Office is seeking highly motivated prospective and currently enrolled students who are interested in gaining experience in athletic media relations, communications, or public relations. Students with strong written and verbal communication skills, who are dependable, can easily work independently and as a member of a team are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and desktop publishing (InDesign and Photoshop) programs preferred, but not required. Familiarity with AP style, all forms of social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) as well as video shooting and editing is preferred, but not required.
Student Assistants in the Strategic Communications Office will work various events across all 31 Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics teams, performing tasks that include taking statistics, assisting the media, and transcribing postgame press conferences. An office hours component also includes research projects, contributing written feature stories and other press releases to GoPSUsports.com. There will also be an opportunity to produce videos which may appear on GoPSUsports.com or athletics’ social channels. Interns will also have the ability to post in-game coverage and other content on official social media channels for various Penn State varsity teams.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
