Job Summary
Under the direction of the Head Baseball Coach, the Part-Time Temporary First Assistant Baseball Coach is responsible for assisting in planning and administering all aspects of the Baseball Program, including but not limited to conducting of developmental team practices. The PT Temp Assistant Baseball Coach should model the comportment and attitudes of the exemplary student-athlete concept and support student-athletes in developing praiseworthy conduct on and off the court/field. The coach's reputation and public information, as well as media, should reflect favorably upon Our Lady of the Lake community and the Saints Athletic Program.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for providing coaching and administrative assistance to the Head Coach in all areas of the Baseball program.
Assists with scouting and recruitment of quality student-athletes.
Monitors academic progress and eligibility status of student-athletes.
Assists in special events and tournaments, championships, fundraisers, and/or clinics to include, but not limited to, major fundraisers, camps, and/or clinics.
Ensures the highest professional standards and behavior with regard to adherence to NAIA rules and regulations.
Daily field maintenance (drag, water, game day field prep, post-game field maintenance)
Advises student-athletes regarding rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility.
Counsels team members in academic, disciplinary, personal matters while adhering to FERPA guidelines.
Monitors academic progress and eligibility status for student-athletes in class and study hall.
Attends all scheduled meetings.
Participates in annual continuing education programs regarding NAIA rules.
Coordinates and assists administration with home and visiting team's game day activities (schedule practices, setup and breakdown of equipment, personnel, field set up, etc.)
Submits transportation requests and required travel documentation to the Athletic Director as required.
Adheres to the NAIA Coaches Code of Conduct.
Promotes the NAIA Champions of Character student development.
Participates in public relations activities and fundraising.
Works with Sports Information Director to communicate the accomplishments and endeavors of the team, both individuals and as a whole
Assists in enrolling student-athletes according to OLLU Admissions policies and standards.
Adheres to Residence Life procedures to securing housing accommodations.
Communicates effectively with all academic/faculty advisors, financial aid, business office, registrar and other university personnel.
Additional Responsibilities:
Participates in Student Affairs Division programs and activities.
Serves as liaison for the university community of faculty, staff, students and administrators.
Adheres to university policies, state and federal laws concerning Title IX, HIPPA, and FERPA policies.
Contributes to and supports the university vibrancy initiative.
Assists and maintains inventory at the beginning and end of the academic year.
Assists Head Coach with conducting business within the limits of the allocated budget.
Recruits within the limits of the scholarship budget.
Assists with all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of fundamentals, technical aspects, and strategy for assigned sport
Ability to recruit and retain qualified athletes and to facilitate timely progress toward graduation
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to interact well with officials, coaches, parents, media, and the public
Ability to operate the softball program within budget parameters
Understanding of and commitment to support the mission of the University
Ability to work with students of all faiths and mentor student-athletes
Demonstrated leadership skills
Ability to work collaboratively with other departments on campus
Excellent communication, organizational, and administrative skills
Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekend and evening hours
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
A minimum of three years of coaching experience, preferably in a college, club travel, or UIL setting in the assigned sport is preferred.
