Job Description:

Job Summary

The Second Part-Time Assistant Women's Softball Coach is responsible for assisting in planning and administering all aspects of the Women's Softball Program, as assigned. Under the direction of the Head Women's Softball Coach, the Assistant Women's Softball Coach should model and maintain an exemplary student-athlete concept and support the personal development of the student athlete's on and off the court/field behavior.  The Part Time Temporary Assistant Women's Softball Coach is expected to maintain a positive public image and uphold a standard of professionalism that reflects favorably upon Our Lady of the Lake University and the Saints Athletic Program.  All actions, communications, and media, both public and private, that are associated with the coach should demonstrate integrity, respect, and alignment with the mission and values of the OLLU community. This includes behavior on social media, during public appearances, in interactions with student-athletes, and in all professional settings.

 

Performance Evaluation Metrics

1. Increase Stolen Base Success Rate (85%)
2. Fundraise $4,000 Through Round Robins and Camps
3. Increase Donor Outreach by ($2,000)

 

Essential Functions:

1. Responsible for providing coaching and administrative assistance to the Head Coach in all areas of the Softball program
2. Assists with scouting and recruitment of quality student-athletes 
3. Monitors academic progress and eligibility status of student-athletes 
4. Assists in special events and tournaments, championships, fundraisers, and/or clinics to include, but not limited to, major fundraisers, camps, and/or clinics
5. Ensures the highest professional standards and behavior with regard to adherence to NAIA rules and regulations
6. Daily field maintenance (drag, water, game day field prep, post-game field maintenance)
7. Advise student-athletes regarding rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility
8. Counsel team members in academic, disciplinary, personal matters while adhering to FERPA guidelines
9. Monitor academic progress and eligibility status for student-athletes in class and study hall
10. Attend all scheduled meetings
11. Participates in annual continuing education programs regarding NAIA rules
12. Coordinates and assist administration with home and visiting team's game day activities (schedule practices, setup and breakdown of equipment, personnel, field set up, etc.)
13. Submits transportation requests and required travel documentation to the Athletic Director as required
14. Subscribes and adheres to the NAIA Coaches Code of Conduct
15. Adhere and promotes the NAIA Champions of Character student development
16. Daily field maintenance (drag, water, game day field prep, post-game field maintenance)
17. Attend all scheduled meetings
18. Participates in public relations activities and fundraising
19. Works with Sports Information Director to communicate the accomplishments and endeavors of the team, both individuals and as a whole
20. Assist in enrolling student-athletes according to OLLU Admissions policies and standards
21. Adhere to Residence Life procedures to securing housing accommodations
22. Communicate effectively with all academic/faculty advisors, financial aid, business office, registrar and other university personnel

 

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Adhere to university policies, state and federal laws concerning Title IX, HIPPA, and FERPA policies
2. Contribute and support the university vibrancy initiative
3. Assist and maintain inventory at the beginning and end of the academic year
4. Assist Head Coach with conducting business within the limits of the allocated budget
5. Recruit within the limits of the scholarship budget
6. Assist with all other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Thorough knowledge of fundamentals, technical aspects, and strategy for assigned sport
2. Ability to recruit and retain qualified athletes and to facilitate timely progress toward graduation
3. Effective oral and written communication skills
4. Ability to learn, apply and adhere to NAIA rules and regulations
5. Ability to interact well with officials, coaches, parents, media, and the public
6. Ability to operate the softball program within budget parameters
7. Understanding of and commitment to the catholic faith and its traditions
8. Solid knowledge base of student development theory
9. Ability to work with students of all faiths and mentor student-athletes
10. Demonstrated leadership skills
11. Ability to work collaboratively with other departments on campus
12. Excellent communication, organizational, and administrative skills
13. Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekend and evening hours

 

Education and Experience:

1. Bachelor's Degree preferred
2. A minimum of three years of coaching experience, preferably in a college or university setting, with at least one year of experience coaching the assigned sport preferred
