Student Health is a full service on campus primary healthcare facility for UCSB students. We see students on both an appointment and walk in basis. Our auxiliary services included on-site laboratory, pharmacy, x-ray, lab and physical therapy. Our specialty services include psychiatry and sports medicine. An extensive alcohol and drug program compliments other behavioral health services.

Brief Summary of Job Duties
Under the direction of the Medical Director, the Physician Assistant is responsible for gathering data, making hypotheses, identifying problems, implementing management plans and evaluation results of interventions both independently and collaboratively. The PA integrates health maintenance, disease prevention, physical diagnosis and treatment of common episodic and chronic problems in primary care with equal emphasis on health teaching and disease management.
Required Qualifications
· Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
· All Physician Assistants must have a PAB and current unrestricted Physician Assistant license, National Provider Identifier (NPI), DEA license, and BLS certification at all times during employment in order to practice and function in their clinical role.
· At least 1-3 years’ experience as a Physician Assistant.

· Must successfully complete and pass the background check and credentialing before employment and date of hire.
· To comply with the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department Health Officer Order, this position must provide evidence of annual influenza vaccination, or wear a surgical mask while working in patient care areas during the influenza season.
· Any HIPAA or FERPA violation is subject to disciplinary action.
· Flexible work schedule to allow afternoon time off is dependent on clinic staffing needs and can be subject to change.
· Student Health is closed between the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays.
Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties
· Direct Patient Care (95%)
o Participates in direct patient care by obtaining histories and performing complete or partial physical exams to assess the nature and extent of presenting illness or injury.
o Performs psychosocial assessments.
o Orders or performs appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets results.
o Evaluates data collected and differentiates between normal and abnormal conditions.
o Plans and implements treatment using established clinical judgment and Treatment Guidelines.
o Refers and consults as appropriate using internal, campus and community resources.
o Performs psychosocial assessments, provides preventative counseling and patient education.
o Prescribes medications as authorized under the Delegation of Services Agreement with the physician supervisor and as allowed by law.
o Provides Urgent Care services including evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of acute illness and procedures where privileges have been granted such as wound care, incision and drainage of abscesses or hematomas, reduction of simple dislocations, laceration repair, extremity splinting, injections and respiratory treatments, management of IV fluids and peripheral IV access and management of adult resuscitations.
o Maintains electronic medical records in compliance with Medical Staff rules and regulations and Student Health policies and procedures.
o Follow-up on all laboratory and radiologic testing, consulting as indicated for abnormal results and communicating results and recommendations to the patient.
o Follows UCSB Student Health policies and procedures, protocols and treatment guidelines using resources wisely and promoting safety.
o Performs additional clinical duties as assigned by Student Health Executive director, immediate supervisor or supervising physician and as allowed by legal scope of practice.
· Committee Work (5%)
o Participates in various committees as appointed or elected. May include writing and presenting reports, serving as liaison between groups or committees and/or developing policies and procedures.
