This person will assist the Sport Psychology & Wellness office in the delivery of mental health and mental performance services to student-athletes at the University of Utah. Responsibilities will include the provision of therapy services to his/her selected sports teams as well as coordinating group and workshop initiatives within the office. Skills with interdisciplinary group offerings, such as mind body workshops or injury support groups is preferred. As a licensed or licensed eligible therapist, this person will assist in crisis management, team culture, and training of practicum students. Finally, this person will provide training to coaches, athletic trainers, academic staff, and other athletic department staff within the realm of psychological services. This is a full-time (1.0
FTE
) position and within the Department of Athletics, reporting to the Director of Sport Psychology and Wellness.

Essential Functions:
Responsible for assessing and treating common psychological issues such as anxiety/depression, eating disorders, substance abuse, grief, sexual trauma, and personality disorders.
Provide consulting and outreach services to coaches, athletic trainers, academic staff, and other administrative personnel regarding the psychological well-being of individual student-athletes and team members.
Coordinate delivery of group and workshop services to student-athletes and sports teams
Work closely in collaboration with team physicians regarding appropriate
NCAA
documentation as well as making medication recommendations for disorders/disabilities.
Participate in student-athlete pre-performance physical examinations by assisting in determining mental health functioning for incoming and returning student-athletes.
Identify psychological education outreach needs and offer relevant programming.
Understand and comply with state statutes governing the ethical provision of psychological care, as well as those rules governing the Athletic Department, University,
PAC
-12, and the
NCAA
.
Provide daytime, evening, and weekend crisis intervention and emergency services in situations involving individual student-athletes or teams
Participate in relevant special projects and meetings, including the monthly Student-Athlete Wellness Meeting.
Provide consulting and outreach services to colleagues and other professionals at the local, regional, and national level in the fields of psychology and sport psychology.
Coordinate and maintain good standing with licensure and accreditation organizations.
Develop and maintain relationships with organizational units that can assist and/or enhance the mental health services provided to student-athletes.
Participate in continuing education and professional association activities related to the performance of job functions and the maintenance of skills.

Master’s Degree in Mental health Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapy or Social Work from an accredited school or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); Current licensure to practice as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor or licensure eligible in the State of Utah; Demonstrated human relations and effective verbal and written communication skills, and; The proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, problem solve and resolve conflicts for individuals, couples, and groups.
At least 1 year of experience in providing services to intercollegiate student athletes or professional athletes.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree or PhD/Psy.D in a mental health field.
Experience with Mind Body Interventions.
Special training in the areas of sport performance or sports psychology.
Clinical expertise in one or more of the following areas is required:

Substance Use Disorders
Groups and Workshops
Psychology of Injury
