Hampden-Sydney College invites applications for a Regional Development Officer for Athletics. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Development, the Regional Development Officer for Athletics is regionally located and supports the College mission by developing and increasing the level of personal involvement and financial commitment of alumni, friends, and parents of Hampden-Sydney College. This Development Officer travels extensively to identify, cultivate, and steward alumni, including parents, faculty, and staff, to encourage support to the College across generations.
Duties
Represents the College in the geographic region, and communicates effectively about a broad range of College priorities. Stays continuously informed of Hampden Sydney’s strategic vision and opportunities for philanthropic support, taking advantage of opportunities for engagement on campus and off.
Maintains a portfolio of 150+ potential donors capable of providing philanthropic support to the College’s athletic programs and approved capital and endowed athletics priorities. Develops and maintains an active monthly travel schedule resulting in a minimum of 200 visits annually.
Meets or exceeds metrics to contribute to the growth of private philanthropy for Hampden-Sydney College.
Qualifies identified prospects through individual visits, advises prospect research of potential new prospects, and assumes specific responsibility for prospect activity. Contributes to research and analysis to determine capacity, inclination, and interests of prospect pools. Creates engagement strategies with supervisor to ensure highest-rated prospects are elevated to senior colleagues.
Develop and implement a strategy to maximize philanthropic potential and long-term sustainable growth of disparate athletic booster clubs as part of a strategic, comprehensive athletics fundraising program.
Writes timely, accurate, and complete reports on prospect activity to allow for the continuous advancement of prospects, as well as written donor strategies and quarterly and annual plans.
Identifies potential donors to participate in specific events, reunion committees, alumni board, or other programs that promote the cultivation process.
Prioritize work to ensure attendance on campus at all planned Development and Advancement team meetings and programs supporting fundraising activities.
Qualifications:  Bachelorâs degree and minimum of 5 years of experience in development, external affairs, sales, or a comparable field are required. A high degree of autonomy is necessary, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with on-campus partners. Frequent travel is required, as well as the ability to represent Hampden-Sydney College effectively at events and in the community through sound judgment and exceptional etiquette. Must have exceptional technical skills, particularly in MS Office and CRMS (constituent relations management systems), as well as social media and LinkedIn expertise. Familiarity with Hampden-Sydney College or similar private institutions highly desirable. Impeccable customer service skills. Successful candidate will be results-driven and possess the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Must have a high degree of initiative and commitment to excellence. Highly collaborative and disciplined, as well as detail and results-oriented. Exceptional relationships, communication, and analytical skills are a necessity.
