Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1). We are currently seeking a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist to lead the Sports Performance Nutrition department.

This position will develop and provide nutrition programming, education and counseling to Brown’s student-athlete population, and will work as a part of an interdisciplinary team to manage and coordinate care for high-risk athletes. This position is also responsible for adhering to the University, NCAA and Ivy League’s policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Apply NowCounsel student-athletes and coaches on optimal nutrition for exercise training, competition, recovery from exercise, weight management, hydration, immunity, travel, and supplementation.
Address nutritional challenges to performance, such as food allergies, bone mineral disturbances, gastrointestinal disturbances, iron depletion, and iron-deficiency anemia.
Participate in the management of high-risk athletes with eating disorders/disordered eating, REDs. Coordinate appropriate care plan, case-dependent with Brown Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), community providers, and/or athletic trainers.
Develop, execute and manage nutrition education programs that may include team talks, small group talks, workshops, dining hall tours, grocery store tours, cooking classes, educational handouts, social media platforms, to support optimal health and performance for all student-athletes with consideration of those with dietary restrictions or specific nutritional needs.
Communicate and collaborate with other disciplines including but not limited to Athletic Trainers, medical providers, athletic administrators, dietitians in Health Services, Strength & Conditioning coaches, coaching staffs, members of Dining Services and support staff.
In charge of the fueling station operations with ordering product, student-athlete engagement, educational content.
Maintain, update, and share evidence-based nutrition education content, including but not limited to content on social media platforms.
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or a related field
Registered Dietitian – completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics and credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
Must be licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) in the state of Rhode Island, or apply for licensure upon hiring
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree
Board certification as a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) or ability to certify within one year of hire
Job Competencies
At least three years of work experience as a Registered Dietitian
Minimum one year work experience in the treatment of eating disorders
Sports nutrition experience, ideally collegiate level
Experience providing nutrition education in a group setting
Experience working in a diverse environment with clients holding marginalized identities
Ability to work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team
Experience working with high-risk populations
Ability to work a nonstandard work week which includes nights, weekends and holidays
Possess strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
Ability to handle a fast-paced and intense work environment
Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion, handling sensitive matters involving patients
Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.

Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test, maintain current AED/CPR & First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division), and attend all required divisional and/or NCAA training/education programs.
